Title: Idiot Neighbour. Cheers mate.
Post by: AJP on March 21, 2016, 02:44:59 pm
Found these scuffs on the front end today. Sussed out that they could only have come from my neighbour's Land/Range Rover that he parks in front of mine. Every scrape lines up unquestionably with certain 'features' of his rusty, scabby rear bumper.

What gets me is not that he was careless and it happened, but that he hasn't got the bottle to come and tell me it happened. Spineless.

I might play a clever one. He's got cctv that definitely covers the spot. If I play dumb... ask him to view the footage because "someone's hit my car but I've no idea who mate!" Double bluff the inconsiderate old tosser.

Things like this are so annoying! Especially when you know who it is and like you say, they dont have the decency to come and tell you.

Double bluff his  :booty: and see what he has to say then. Give him a good ol  :slap:

I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt, give him the chance to say something if he bumps into me.

Doubt he will, but you never know. Sad truth is that it's probably easier and less stress to just get it sorted myself and avoid confrontation. Different game if I wasn't living bang next to them.

To be fair it looks like it the bumper could have just kissed yours so the guy may not even have felt it. Go see him and say your devastated that someone has scuffed your car and ask him to look at his CCTV and hopefully he will see himself do it, say sorry and then sort it out. That way no confrontation and no guest staring on nightmare neighbours  :signLOL:
If he doesn't come clean karma will catch up with him

What @MateyGuv (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=7486) said, if he drives a 4x4 like you said, there's no way he's know with that damage.

It's how you go about telling him, it was him lol!

That's the thing. As much as him and me have always got along amicably, he's got a history of being 'less than reasonable' with the neighbours on the other side (who have since moved..). I've seen and heard how the guy operates, and being honest any kind of confrontation, however diplomatic on my part, could quickly turn into something a bit nasty. And I'm not the type to back down. I'd probably lamp him one if he spoke to me like I've heard him speak to the other neighbours. So, I might be wise just to avoid the discussion altogether, as much as I have a right to pull him up on it.

How much is the going rate for a smooth grill? Might be a good excuse to get that done, I've always preferred the look of the US spec front. With a legal plate of course!

Very annoying to say the least - how about getting it wrapped? Might be a cheaper option? Or will it bug you knowing that it's been damaged?

I'm open to options really mate, so any suggestions are welcome. The number plate surround itself has been scraped as well as the gloss black section, so that'd have to be sorted too. That's what got me thinking about the smooth option.

I'm not sure how hard he reversed into it, but you can see where his tow bar has 'bruised' the plate itself, on the 'M'. Got to assume he felt the impact.

Does the mk5 alarm not have a shock sensor? I had a Toad ai606 on my old mk4, with all the works, tilt, shock, proximity, and this would definitely have set the full siren off on that.

The US spec looks the best IMO (being biased as I have one on my car!)

These guys sell them (non genuine) but only problem is you get all the other grills with it:

http://www.xenonz.co.uk/golf-mk5-gti-grill.html

Ebay has a couple this is the cheapest one but no idea on fitting:

I had someone reverse in to my last mk5 in my local big tesco car park. They hit it that hard that my car went into the empty parking space in front of it. They drove off without leaving any details.

I came out to see the back bumper hanging off, it was all covered on cctv, called the police who got the video and witness details and nothing ever came of it! Every time I called them I just got fobbed off.

Some people are just heartless wa*kers!

Hardly any damage at all.
New grill for 40 quid not worth the aggro of dealing with people.
sh*t happens  :scared:

Yeah you're right Jay, it's no biggie. Was just a bit hacked off that it happened and he chose not to put his hand up. I'd pay more than 40 quid to avoid dealing with some people actually!

Jesus, sounds like I got off lightly in comparison.

Its a culture of selfishness and avoiding responsibility mate. Far too many dishonest people about who only care about the bubble they're in and wouldn't know how to stand up and face up. Twats.

Coppers are often useless as well, although most are pushed to the limit now after budget cuts. I like to think they'd do more to help with things like this if they weren't so stretched.

I bet he didn't even feel it in a Range Rover!

I think the MK5 has a tilt sensor, but not shock iirc.  They're notoriously flakey anyway.  If it's not the siren going, it's the interior sensors etc.  Dodgy ribbon cable in the headliner or something apparently.  Add that to the things to check when you get it scanned

It's a shame people are so inconsiderate of others and can't fu**ing drive ffs what's wrong with people.

Sinse owning my car and previous cars I've had side swipes and front bumper number plate surround dented by some silly tw**s.
I park well away from people yet someone has to stick their car right up my bottom so to speak.

Lucky yours isn't the actual bumper and will be a cheap fix not that it justifies what the idiot did knowingly or unknowingly  :stupid:

I park miles away from the shop front when going into the local supermarket, but you either find someone parks next to you defeating the object,

'all those spaces, and you park next to me!!!'

Or someone knows why you've parked so far away, takes offence, and keys it anyway, as happened to my mates Merc, although, there could of been another reason, I don't know lol, he could of made an enemy somehow..ex gf or what not..I keep out of that side of things
