Title: TDI aftermarket CAI filter
Post by: dashworth on January 10, 2010, 01:13:05 pm
I know the GTI and other Mk5 engines are slightly different to the TDI OEM intake, Ive looked at some sites and I am very confused as to how I change the OEM box to an aftermarket jobbie...
Has anyone got any pictures of how they have changed their OEM boxes to aftermarket ones on a Mk5 TDI? or just some helpful advice would be apreciated thanks gents

I have looked into this myself before and was told by a few people that a new induction system on the diesel's arent really worth having but instead go for a replacement panel filter with a upgraded downpipe and exhaust which is what i intend on doing soon. But i am also tempted to get hold of a Carbonio intake and see if it will fit on my car for the eye candy if anything.
But when i was searching i did come across this

Which is a BMC CDA intake system wich is available from Demon Tweeks

I know from 150PD world they're absolutely useless, the engine just doesn't take in enough air to need one. De-cat DPs are where its at on dervs  :happy2:

A decat downpipe will open up your powerband a bit, spooling earlier and lasting a touch longer. Obviously mapping has a lot to do with smoke, crude tuners just dump in fuel and expect the car to deal with it.

Yeah that is what i was told about a downpipe hence why im getting one asap. My car has had a Revo remap it does smoke a bit more than normal but nothing that worries me.

Block the EGR valve - it'll be spewing oil back into the intake under the increased load and burning it, hense smoke. Makes no difference to the car, just for emissions..  :happy2:
