Title: Going to order a PCV replacement....but...
Post by: Gmac on March 30, 2016, 08:48:37 pm
Been reading up about this and about to pull the trigger on ordering a replacement one...

Just a little confused as to what all I need to order..

Pcv - 06F 129 101 R for the New breather valve PCV
06F 103 215 A for the pipe with checkvalve - may not need this?
   06F 103 483 E for the Gasket - may not need this?

Do I need to get the pipe and gasket?

I've looked on eBay and genuine one for the PCV seems about £60, is this correct?

Any help much appreciated, new to the mk5!

Forgot to add, i think yes it's worth changing the gasket if it's not been done before. Regards the rear breather pipe, it will depend on MY, is yours an early AXX?

Not sure tbh, I'll check. If it is, then do I need the breather pipe?

From what i've read then yes, i didn't need it, so not exactly sure from when. A quick google search of rear breather pipe etc will help you locate it and you can check if yours is there or not...

Is it worth changing this like the DV and Cam follower if you are not suffering any ill effects e.g. inconsistent idle?
I was considering it but not sure it would have any effect?

Thanks

I did a search and found a page that contains a heap of info on this, but can't remember what it recommended... I need to go and take another read. When I find the page I'll link it to this thread! :happy2:

I'm still unsure at to whether I need the gasket though.. Anyone?

If you remove the current PCV...look at the orange seal(gasket) for oil passing between compartments on the valve cover mating surface of the seal. If you do not see that you can skip replacing it for now.

You do not need the rear breather tube unless the valve is stuck inside or damaged so that it allows flow in both directions...so, good to check at least. The gasket should come with a new PCV. Weird that a PCV comes without it. There are gaskets separate from the PCV just in case one's gasket is damaged we do not have to puschase a PCV+gasket kit. So, perhaps the PCV price includes a gasket...IDK

The gasket definitely comes separate here after having recently purchased  both items

Sorry @Gmac (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=15788) I'm not sure about the rear hose, hopefully someone will be able to confirm one way or the other

I've not long bought my 05 gti and I'm going to replace mine as a matter of course as there isn't any record of it being done.  Doing this along with the cam follower and the DV.

I'm going to get the gasket part, but unsure as to whether I need the breather pipe with the check valve?  Anyone?

It's my understanding that sometime on 07 they made the pipe with a check valve, and before that they didn't.  But it's whether getting the replacement PCV revision 'R' does away with the need for a breather pipe with a check valve?

Okay I might as well get it done on my 06 plate then as its never been done.  Think the part for the gasket is around 60quid?

I have just read that if one replaces the PCV with the latest revision, that is 06F129101P, you must replace the rear breather pipe as well. 06F129101P replaces 06F129101G & 06F129101E.

From what I've read depending on your VIN, then you were given P or N by the dealer, (N was for early cars) but these have both been replaced by R.  But I can't find info about whether or not the check valve is required when going with the R.  I believe you didn't need to if you replaced with the N.

Check valve is not required with the latest R revision, as was not needed for the N. Only the P needed it.

I too have only found that you need to install the latest version-rear breather, with that check valve, if you install the P-version PCV.

So to confirm guys do I replace with 06F129101P or 06F 129 101 R? Looking to confirm before getting my 06 plate booked in for a few jobs.

Thanks!
