Hello,
Anyone know where I can get the US smooth grille from please?
Only one I can find, which I'm not sure if it's the same, is this JOM one on AwesomeGTi
-
Also, has anyone got a before and after shot of pre-smoothed grille and one of it fitted?
-
Anyone able to advise :sad1:

I can't really tell any difference between your photos tbh ... Except th top part next to bonnet lip looks more black. Is it just me being blind?
-
Not sure what ur looking for then. The grille on Awesome comes without emblem de badged so unless ur gonna fill the recess in the bonnet ? the one on eBay is smooth with everything on. Standard grille has a plate holder:bracket hence not smooth

Ohh yhyhhh I get what you're on about now. I was just being dopey lol.
Can you buy magnetic strips to go on the plates, or are they a special type of magnetic plate you have to buy.
I've got the stickers I could use but not sure how strong they are with jet washing etc.

Normal plate fixing stickers from Halfords are fine mine is in my window tho as don't see the point having a smooth grille just to stick a plate to it. However there are a few threads in here where people have used magnets on the plate and behind the grille. I believe you will need high strength ones from Amazon
Check this thread out may be helpful

Ah I'm from Halesowen, there's a lot of street racing at a weekend on the nights in Halesowen / Halesowen to Bham on Qunton expressway / Merryhill cruising.

Anyone tried these guys? Seem decent for £75! http://www.xenonz.co.uk/golf-mk5-gti-grill.html

I got one from eBay for £50.00 which came with OEM fog and radiator grills as well.
-
Oh that's decent then, what was the fit like? Had experiences with some replica stuff fitting terrible in the past!
-
Went in fine, bit of a fiddly thing getting the two top clips in, but it's easy enough

I've got this on mine. Fits perfectly fine and its good quality. You also get the lower honeycomb grill and fog light covers with this kit.
My old lower grill and fog light covers were starting to turn dull and grey so its freshened up the front end nicely now

Hmmm might have to give this a go instead of spraying the lot black then!

For £75 I don't think you can go wrong IMO.
Yes, its not genuine... but it certainly looks the part and it all fits perfectly too.
Saves you having to rub down and prep all that honeycomb ready for spraying which would be very time consuming. On the other hand, rubbing down, prepping and spraying it yourself will be cheaper and very rewarding once its all back on the car
That's my two cents worth anyway.
