Title: RNS 510 - ANT 1 ON , ANT 2 OFF - how to enable?
Post by: Boky on April 13, 2016, 11:17:45 pm
Hello.

my car is a MK5 GTI 2007 year. i switched my oem rcd 300 to rcd 510.

i also switch my stock roof antenna with a shark fin for gps/fm/am from passat. the gps works fine.

problem is my fm signal. it's not so great after this upgrade. it plays ok, but not on every station that is used to.

In the service menu on the rns510 it says that ANT 1 ON  and  ANT 2 OFF.

wondering, how to enable antenna 2?

which one is the roof antenna and which one is the rear window one?

i don't know which cable i pluged in the connectors on the back of the HU. thought it doesn't make a difference.
should i try switching them?

thank you very much for any info.

You need to plug both aerial connectors in. You will need an adapter when upgrading head units as the 300 had two seprate connectors and the 510 is two connectors but joined in one block.

I did plug both connectors in.
I removed the plastic fakra adapter from one, and it goes in the connector fine..

I will take the HU out and check the connenctions.

Wondering, ANTENNA 1 is the roof antenna or the rear window on?

Can i switch the connectors and put antenna 1 in the ant 2 slot, will it work normally or not?

They should work well, but I'd connect them as they were in your previous HU.

The roof antenna is for FM and the rear window antenna is for AM.

Problem is i don't know which one was ih which connector

I will plug only one antenna to see what happens on the radio, then the other one.

Are you sure for that the antenna 1 is a roof antenna for fm, antenna 2 is a rear window JUST for am?

Because in that case, if my roof antenna is weak, i will need to put the oem antenna back on the car and stash it somewhere, since the shark antenna is my gps signal antenna.

I don't know which connection corresponds to which antenna. I just know the aerial is for FM reception. Just test the connections and see what is best. I have both connected and just made sure to keep the same position when retrofitting the RNS-510 in my GT Sport. The Ed. 30 already had a RNS from factory, it was easy to upgrade to a later version.
