Hello everyone,
I am currently in New Zealand after being here for 18months I'll be coming back to England and looking at either a mk5 gti or a3 quattro tfsi what does everyone think the best option is looking at 2005/6 about 4-5k budget. I'm from a run of bmw's so hoping I'm making the right choice. In the real world I would want a golf gti 4 motion

If you are chasing bhp get the audi been 4wd
-
I have the GTI, my brother wants the A3.
Can't comment on driver feel for the A3 but after viewing a few, the GTI wins hands down on aesthetics.
I'd rather get into my GTI any day than an A3!

If your going for a sleeper then go for the audi. the GTI looks better though but its your money.
try driving a gti then a Quattro.
I think FWD is more fun though
-
Thanks for that :happy2: I much prefer the gti but just the 4wd that's swaying me especially if I went for stage 2  I had a 1 series that was 253bhp and 347 lb-ft and that wasn't much of a handful even with the rear wheel drive so I suppose the gti would be a lot of fun at 300bhp :driver:

Here's a curveball. Get a mk5 GT 4motion, kit it out with oem skirts etc, and take it to Darkside Developments for a big GTB turbo conversion.
300bhp+. 450lb/ft+. With traction. And it's still a Golf.

Wow and this is why this forum is so good :happy2: I'll have a look around because last time I looked golf gt 4 motions are like hens teeth :fighting2:

They are. Which kind of makes them a little bit special.
I'd love my GTI to have more traction. I'm only running around 260bhp but even now it won't hook up fully until 3rd when I'm giving it the beans.
Only downside to the GT is that it's a diesel, so it won't sound as nice. But if you're in this for performance the sky's the limit. And your bank balance.
I'm not too clued up on diesel tuning these days, but I know a few years ago the gtb2260vk was getting very good rep. Good for 250bhp easily. I think there are now two even bigger options that'll take you past 300bhp if you want that much. And huge torque.
You could build something that's more than a match for the usual Stage 2+ GTIs.
Should keep a nice mpg figure too!

A 2260 turbo can make up to 310bhp but the only down side is the cost as it is £2500 for the kit then injectors £700 and a clutch but with a 4mo might be ok then a map.Tuning diesel is a lot more expensive as I am doing down this route

Well seems like I'm getting swayed to a golf gti :pomppomp:
