Hi guys,
Had my MK5 GTI DSG (AMD Stage1) for 12months now and has been faultless until i noticed a vibration when idling and when you let off the power and then on engine overrun a noise can clearly be heard as the revs drop. 2500rpm down to around 1000rpm.
Cars done 38,500miles FSH, took it to VW... they want £650 to investigate and couldn't tell me what it would cost in parts. Took it to PSI in Newcastle (Stoke) and he diagnosed the flywheel on start-up and have quoted £1200 but i got the feeling they suspected gearbox also? Which to me sounds like it all runs fine. Anyone got a lower milage car and had issues with critical parts failing? Clutch, Gearbox, Flywheel.... am i in for an expensive 12 months? Any advice or recommendations on places to take it in Cheshire or is £1200 what i need to pay?

Haven't tried there. Is it best going with a Dual Mass again or do many people change to Single Mass?

How did they diagnose the DMF? I have a vibration on idle but only in D? Do you have the pebbles in a can noise?

Pebbles in a can? VW wouldn't tell me anything without me paying for them to take the gearbox out/ 6hrs labor at £100 an hour.
PSI in stoke said there was a rattle on start up, which then gives a vibration in the cabin. Like an out of balance. The when the car decelerates and the revs drop in certain ranges a louder grinding noise comes in. You can head it at the end of the video in the link above.
If i'm having the Flywheel done do you have the clutch done also?

You can get an uprated clutch and new DMF fitted for £1k or so from AKS Tuning so £1200 is a rip off for just a DMF!!
Take it to a specialist who won't charge you the earth. Yes, change the clutch whilst the DMF is being replaced - false economy not to.
By the way a standard DMF, clutch kit, slave and bolts can be had new for around £350 for genuine LUK items delivered from Carparts4less (where I bought mine). All of that can easily be changed by a garage in around 4 hours (Done it myself - 2 of us in a garage took two hours)

Mine did that before a new clutch and flywheel and it still does it now. Been like it for about 30K miles and not getting any worse. Mine's a manual btw. I put it down to the my uprated dogbone mount.
