Hoping someone has fitted these or knows someone that has.
I purchased these aftermarket LED rear lights for my ED30 the other day and they require some messing about to get these wired up.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131778439224?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131778439224?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT)
The problem is not getting the lights to work, but actually feeding the wiring from by boot lid lights down to the main lights without having the wires exposed. If anyone has an easy way of doing this or can offer suggestions, please let me know. Otherwise I'll end up paying someone else to do it (which I don't like)
Also, noticed that the reverse light and fog lights are the opposite way around, probably as they're non UK spec. I have two options here:
1 - Can you change these around in VAGCOM
2 - I extend the wires and swap these around (a bit of messing about)
They end up looking like this once on
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi.ebayimg.com%2Fimages%2Fg%2Fut0AAOSwq5lTnzRz%2Fs-l640.jpg&hash=4e7939acf21abd42925d0f9e3f842fe7581f13ae)
Please help!!

sadly not many write up's for doing this, but i can give you a push in the right direction to get the wires through into the boot
have a read of this
http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=10027.0
it will give you a few pointers on the boot lid end, here is a guide for the c pillar area, not the best but a start
http://www.my-gti.com/1477/volkswagen-golf-c-pillar-trims-%E2%80%93-removal-and-installation
you can't change them in vagcom you'd be better doing the mod in the boot area as when its mot time if the examiner notices there on different sides it will fail the MOT other than that fiddly and annoying but doable.
-
You need to pull the boot lid panel off and swop the wires over on the connector mate, easy enough to do but panel is a bit stiff and will need prying off with some force. Then a tester to find reverse and fog live connections if you know how too?.
-
Just spoke to a garage that specialise in car electrics and they said that you can't swap the fog and the reverse light around as this won't pass an MOT. Not really sure what to do now. The only option I can think would be to take the lights apart and swap the two around (white lens and red lens), but this could end up being a big job.
-
Go and ask an mot garage mate.
I've got mine the opposite way round like yours.
-
Doesn't matter where the reverse light is as that's not part of the test but the fog had to be on the offside or centre of the vehicle.
-
How many testers know this -^^^^^
-
And I'm assuming that the reverse light has to be white?
At the moment I have the drivers side with the white lens and the passenger side with the red Lens.
I was hoping I could just buy a red bulb for the drivers side, but I'm sure the passenger side reverse light can't be red.
-
Just take the pass bulb out on mot time.
Make sure you get a quality bulb for the light you mentioned being white lensed or you will get an error on the dash.
-
The reverse light isn't part of a mot test mate
-
Found a great post so try this. not sure if it's applicable to your lights.

Thanks. I'll take a look at this.
I may just order a red bulb for the drivers side and leave the reverse light as red, then remove for MOT or put old lights back on. Sounds like you don't need reverse light for MOT.
-
That's right you don't need the reverse light for mot time :happy2:

Ive done this mod and fed the wires the through the existing wires which go up to the boot lid. I can some pictures too

Hi @axsweb (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=6772) pictures would be great for others to see :happy2:

I'll get some in the morning @r5gtt. The wiring is easy but feeding the wires through took time

Cheers @axsweb (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=6772). yes that's the difficult part feeding the wires through the grommet.

The wires are fed through the original cover can do it but takes time. The three colour wires are so the lights inside the tail gate light up. The reverse wire i had to make another connection from the left so it could reach to the right side. You have to make extra two wires.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Why did you cut through the rubber grommet :slap: You could have fed the wires through it with a coat hanger or similar as this looks awful @axsweb (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=6772)
-
You can't swap around the reverse and the fog cables as it's illegal to have a Fog light on the opposite side. The only way to get around this is to either swap the lens covers OR buy a red bulb to replace, but that means the reverse light will be red also.
Not a simple solution either way

Oops.... Oh well I'll live with it now.
I didn't know it was illegal.

Managed to swap the lens cover over by heating the lights from the edges and opening them up. The white lens and red lens clip out and easy to swap over. Then re seal the lights with see through seal and kept them together using masking tape for few hours and there fine now. No water leaks inside.
