All, looking to see if anyone has any experience on buying/fitting/using a source to track your cars, in the event of them going walkies....
Cheers

Yes. used a cheap £30 once. just hooked it up to the constant live 12v feed. added sim card to it, mounted the unit, gps and gsm antenna somewhere discreet and away you go. you call the number and after 2 rings it messages you a google maps link to your car and is very accurate. also has a backup battery in case someone removes your car battery.

ah ok cheers, does it still work? what make was it? any links?

Yep still working, you can also hook it up to the fuel supply somehow and remotely shut down the car and lock the car. But i just used it for simple tracking

I used one of these on my old CC and was quite impressed with it.

I've thought of using an old phone wired to permanent 12v and 'google find my phone', would work in a similar way.

yes I guess an old iphone wired into car, with pay as you go sim card in it would work....

Doesn't have to be an I phone, google has a 'find my phone' app thing if you register a phone number with them.
