Title: Anyone painted their front grilles?
Post by: AJP on April 21, 2016, 01:47:50 pm: I need to replace mine as my nobhead neighbour reversed into it, and the honeycomb is more grey than black now, so I'm thinking about getting the honeycomb and two fog grilles painted to freshen things up.

I'm thinking more of a satin black than gloss so it's not ott. But maybe gloss could work if I got some open fog grilles.

Anyone done this?

I'm not interested in any 'back to black' type of product, in my experience even the best products are a bit weak.

Post by: Grant w on April 24, 2016, 07:26:57 pm: My grill was faded really bad it had gone a light grey colour and looked awful so I did exactly what you said. Took it off fairly simple just 4 screws. Then I masked around the red striping on the grill and painted it with halfords satin black spray paint. It looks so much better it makes the front end of the car look brand new!

Try plasti dip.

Good luck wraping it! :laugh:

There are car detail products that rejuvenesce the black plastics from bumpers and grills. I bought one from Autoglym but I still haven't had time/patience to use it.

Yeah there won't be any wrapping going on here!

Or plastic trim products. I kind of want a permanent solution.

Nice semi-gloss black will do the trick.

Applied, waited an hour with hot weather, rubbed with finger to feel finish, & fingered areas show as dull now:

Might do the whole front grill (bar the red stripe) and also the two fog grills.

I've tried a few things to rejuvenate them but none last long. People have recommended tyre shine, peanut oil, interior plastic spray etc. None of them looked as good as Softishman's painted ones though :sad1:
I might actually paint mine this weekend as my car is off the road for a bit while I await parts.
Are you guys/gals using using special plastic paints? I've never seen such a product. I'll have a search here in New Zealand.
I've got plenty of clear coat left over that I never used when I machined my wheels. Do you recommend clear coating too?

I have tried to spray paint them myself but when a had a painter doing my frint wings, hood and bumpers i legt the grilles to him aswell and it's great!! Much better then doing it yourself!!

I've got some Aerospace 303 which is supposed to last well, i'm just dreading the thought of having to do all the honeycombs!

Might give it a whirl, if it doesn't last then get them sprayed up. Just be deciding between satin and gloss then!
