Title: Settle a debate
Post by: Pesky jones on April 22, 2016, 10:53:54 pm
If a dsg equipped car is faster than a manual on straights and on corners (?) why are rally cars all manual?  :driver:

Splitting hairs rich they still have a clutch and a manually shifted lever to change gear, more manual than auto.

Op its cos rally drivers actually know how to turn an change gear. By the way pesky hows the motor.

Do you mean a clutch pedal rather than a clutch? Because a DSG has a clutch too - two of them in fact.

Is it a clutch pedal? I see but even if they do know, surely there would be more control and a quicker change if tiptronic?

The motor is going ok thanks (touch wood) done about 500 miles in it, did some motorway miles yesterday to pick an airbox up from rich and it ran fine. There is still an oil leak which im adressing today, and I think there is a funny noise at idle but It might be ib my head, rich thought it sounded normal yesterday. Tbh I think it is in my head  :stupid: but overall good, thanks. Im very lucky it didnt bend valves etc

It's sequential in the fact that you pull and push a lever to change gear without the need to depress the clutch.

In Manual mode the DSG box is also similar to a sequential box, you push or pull the lever. I just prefer to use the flappy paddles... :P

Yeap! I love to boost the turbo and change gears! DSG farts FTW! :signLOL:

Lot of dsg love going on here haha. My dsg doesn pop but I still love her haha

So why not have the gear changes at the wheel? I understand that the drivers are good with their hands of the wheel but it would still be faster and more control with both hands on the wheel surely?

Not when you are on opposite lock drifting around a corner.... its easier to locate the static shifter.

Yeah, I only use the DSG lever instead of the paddles when I'm turning the wheel and need to change from 1st to 2nd or 3rd to 2nd. At higher speeds I don't think I turn the wheel more than 180ยบ...

For my exhaust to pop and burble I need to step on the gas a lot to warm up the system. DSG farts just need boost and an up shift. Yours doesn't fart?

Get a Powervalve and you can make it fart with a manual box.

Just get the traction control to cut in on full boost.

Mine didn't really fart either, but with the front silencer delete, it's savage when it farts! What I have noticed is that when then system is either very warm, or the gearbox is very warm, it won't fart on que....wonder why ...

Yep, it's a bit of an animal! Was away for a few days with the Mrs there and got into trouble for being rude and farting whilst overtaking other cars on the b roads!
