Title: Trying to find Michelin pilot supersport!
Post by: 18Edition30 on April 27, 2016, 05:51:34 pm
Trying to find these available over the next few days!

225/40/18 92Y
ATS are owned by Michelin and they aren't available till 19th may!

Kwikfit told me they had been replaced with the Michelin pilot sport 4, is this true?

Camskill are a 5 day lead time and everywhere else only has the 88y not the 92.

Help, I need tyres!

Super sports still available but going at a pricey 150 a corner on average now.

Would recommend the PS4s instead, excellent tyre in both dry and wet. I've only done about 600 miles in them so far, but Pudding on here will vouch for them as well who has put down more miles.

Thanks @fab5freddy (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=3064),
Can't believe the price hike!

I'm sure I got my set of 4 for around £110 each a year or so ago.

Wanted the same tyres as they are so good, didn't want to risk changing to the ps4s,, they can't be better.....can they? Lol

Have you had the supersport before mate? Looking to compare!

PS4 replace the PS2.

Not sure the PS4 are quite at Super Sport level, but they're very good by most accounts.

I've not had the SS before, had PS2s before I bought my PS4s a month ago. Can't fault the PS4s so far.

Are they high and dry again?  :popcornsoda:

I managed to source 2 worns' within a couple of weeks while the last shortage was on (February) but the week after I fitted mine, suddenly costco and blackcircles have 92Y's in stock again  :fighting:   :signLOL:

Yep.  Pilot Sport 4 is not a replacement for the SuperSport.  In it's current form, it's being phased out (except for some OEM fitments) and a replacement is on the horizon, or so I gathered from Pistonheads discussions at least.

As for the PS4's performance, it's the best all rounder I've tried to date.  As above, it's not 'better' than the SS, just a more rounded package for a daily driver.   I had SSs on my old R32 and they were amazing in the dry, but not quite as good as the PS4 in wet / cold conditions.

Personally, if you love the SS, pay the extra for them.  Stick to what you know    I really like the PS4 and will probably go back to SS when the new one comes out, but for now I'm a happy camper

Do you have a link available for the PH discussion on this? I'm going to be needing some new ones soon and don't want anything else.
Thanks.

Nice one! PH is a funny world. I once tagged along on a local event (South Coast) when I had my VX220 as they came past my front door more or less. Got to a cafe a Port Solent, tried to strike up conversations but got looked at like I had two heads. Got the feeling I was crashing a private party.

They are a great price for sure. Not sure if my expectations might demand more than 5mm of tread. Brilliant tyre though.
I have -2.85 degrees of camber which could see them off and effectively waste them without sufficient track days.

I could have that all wrong though....
