Title: subwoofer help
Post by: Daled0111 on May 01, 2016, 11:09:55 am
hello i have a vibe black air active sub 1600watts and i have just bought a 12inch stealth inclosure and was thinking of putting a jl audio 12W0v3-4 sub in it but it is only 300watts, does this mean i will hear a difference and the jl one won't be as good at the vibe one

sorry if stupid question

You won't be able to hear a huge difference but the vibe is made for the encloser and depends on the RMS route mean square over a long period of time meaning pumping it for hours on both subs. 300w peak and 1300w peak are a great deal and you may blow the 300jl if cranked up too much. keep frequencies down and anything is possible.

Well if I buy the JL audio sub I will buy the 300watt JL audio amp to go with.
What I might do is take the vibe sub and amp out the box and try in the steal one

Vibe made a really nice accurate amp for their active woofers so I'd keep it and find out what the actual power output is for the vibe and get something similar to match it. Doesn't have to be spot on as I've used a 900 watt alpine digital amp 500RMS at 1ohm bridged which two x pioneer 500w were running through I think the speaker rms were 150w rms but they kicked bass and neighbours said they could hear me from really far thats at low 50hz  :signLOL:  You just need to know what to set the amp frequency at and being digital makes a massive difference too. I still have the amp sitting in its original box. didn't have the heart to sell it

If its nice and neat with a 10" sub that fits nicely under the shelf you might get away with it

Another vote for Visual Ice here, this is my Alpine SWR-1242 in one of his boxes....
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Faf312%2Fandyb88%2FP1020355_zpsgwhsxy2z.jpg&hash=887bf88a1d33b2433bddb62631f374ed3e8d038d)

Sounds epic being run by my Genesis amp...
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Faf312%2Fandyb88%2FP1020356_zpsrbqiuwva.jpg&hash=9b03c6b6abc1cc713bbd42930bb65fb923a1d2a2)

It's got a remote for the sub channel on the amp which is nice and handy, managed to squeeze it into a blanking plug in the centre console here.....
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Faf312%2Fandyb88%2FP1020359_zpsgft1j7zv.jpg&hash=50d09b5eb92947865617b189e80fb559a0694364)
Makes adjusting the bass very easy, and I can turn it right down when "She Who Must Be Obeyed" is in the car.

Lastly my head unit, I looked at the Erinson or whatever they are, but just didn't want to risk it. So splashed the cash on this Alpine INE-W928. Absolutely fabulous unit, works with the SWC and the display in the clocks, so all good.

Just got to get my tweeters in the A pillars and I'm done, Oh did I mention I'll be 55 next birthday, never too old for good sounds
