Title: Tramline ( wandering front end )
Post by: Joshryan on May 02, 2016, 01:56:34 pm
I'm not sure if this topic has been covered,
In my mk2 Leon Cupra, When I'm upto speed motorway sort of speed I find the front end wandering side to side making my car very unsteady to drive. Recently had the 4 wheel alignment done and bushes checked. Running continental sport contact 5s on the front and budget rear tyres but good nearly full tread. I'm travelling to the Nurburgring this Thursday coming and would like to resolve it before it go! Thanks for any recommendations.

Got a print out of the alignment? Who did it?

Some tyres are more prone to tramlining that others. The MPSS drove really straight on my car. The AD08R not so, but its not horrendous.

It was just 4 wheel laser tracking not geometry which I'm possibly having done Wednesday, with the rear tyres being cheap I want to replace them but being full tread I have plenty of cornering grip it's just when I'm going straight so I'm not sure that will cure it.

If they mounts aren't knocking then unlikely and again front shocks likely if your high miler and never been replaced as I work on cars and have found this with older cars. Just saying as I don't know everything  :stupid:

It's an 07 with 65k so,it's getting on abit now! But I have got a sort of jingling metal rattling noise which I thought was the top mount, I took it to the garage the other day for drop links and to check all the bushes etc and came back with nothing found! So I'm thinking top mounts if you've suggested as it does rattle. Only when going slow though.

Best way to find out is remove the one you mentioned in another post and inspect is the best way to find out. although some mot stations have a ramp that does this for you. but won't be surprised if no one wants to help unless they'll be carrying out the repair and even then.

Probably needs aligning properly
