Hi all,
Just bought myself a 2007 black MK5 golf gt tdi 170 with 60k miles on it. Wanted one ever since they came out and finally had the spare funds to buy one. Here's a rubbish iPhone photo as I've not had a chance to get a proper one.

Been looking about on the forum for a week or so and looks like a really good forum, loads of info and really active so wanted to join in the fun.
I'll be starting a project/members ride thread as have a few things I want to do to it as well as just giving It a super good clean.
Think that's all about the car now so feel free to skip the next bit about me
I live in Shetland and I'm 28. Have been, and still am, a member on several car, bike and detailing forums.
I'm super into detailing, bikes, cars and music (play bass in a local band)
I've owned a few vag cars:
My first car was a 1997 bright green polo 1.0l known as the green bean:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fs104%2Fbailachris%2F10-03-09_1413.jpg&hash=5d3d6a05b0981837538ff801552debe411682815)
Second car was a 1997 mk3 golf gti 2.0l 8v
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fs104%2Fbailachris%2F10-06-10_2142.jpg&hash=05f5c75881c05854b2338c480dcea695a816e03b)
Followed by a 2004 Audi A4 2.0l sport:
Then unfortunately due to financial circumstances I had to sell the audi and bought myself a 2004 ford fiesta 1.4tdci 68bhp... I've had that for almost 4 years now as a cheap little run about and to be fair it's been cheap to run and insure and tax but is gutless and boring so time for a change!
Here's a pic of my bike too for anyone who's interested or made it reading this far! haha!
It's a 2002 Yamaha FZS600 fazer which I have modded quite a bit over the last 3 years of ownership.

Thanks for looking, hope to get stuck into the forum!
Cheers,
Chris

Thanks,
First thing is replace a few parts to smarten it up and give it a good service, boot struts need replacing as have gone quite rusty, debadge the back, seat adjustment inserts, stubby ariel, gti headlights, possibly black front badge, smoked indicator lenses, LED interior lights, rubber/plastic boot liner, GT engraved door sill protectors, carbon effect wing mirror covers... Oils and filters etc, Might get some of the paintwork resprayed, bonnet has a few bad stone chips on it. Going to be giving it a good detail too wet/damp sand and polish then protected with mostly Gtechniq products.
Longer term - nicer wheels, been looking at gloss black audi rotor style ones in either 18" or 19". R32/S3/TTrs brake upgrade, Probably R32 rear bumper and exhaust with carbon valance, R32 rear lights, Coilovers... maybe a remap... Having said that it's got plenty power compared to the fiesta I've had for the last few years... No cars really feel quick anyway after having the motorbike so not that bothered about upping the power... 170 is plenty for the roads up here.
Cheers,
Chris

I have a yamaha R6 which I've owned for nearly 4 years but thinking of getting a gsxr 1000 next year depending on £££.
I don't really go to any rally's just like to head out to ace cafe on a Friday weather dependant but am taking it to the Isle of Man for the tt races this year in June
How about your self mate do you go to many rally's?
-
Welcome along, another fellow biker here!
-
Cheers Beej, what kind of bike you got?
Sounds good Tappy, I'd love to go to the IOM TT sometime, there is usually a group that head down each year from Shetland to go to it so will go with them sometime when funds allow. We have a bike rally in Shetland called the simmer dim rally each year, it's an amazing week/weekend if you're ever thinking of coming. Usually get a couple of hundred bikes up from south/all over the world for it plus a couple of hundred local bikers.
I've not been to any bike rallys on mainland uk but, like the TT then, there are usually groups that go from here to a lot of them so will tag along at some point.

I currently have a Kawasaki Z1000, previous bike are Yamaha YZF600R thundercat, Kawasaki er6n and a Suzuki GSXR 750.
Love my Zed though

Welcome. Some good mods planned. Nice car will low miles, good find :happy2:
-
Not surprised Beej, zed is a great bike. Had a go of a friends one last year and it blew my socks off! haha, such a smooth torquey engine.
Cheers prp74, it was owned by a friend of a friend for the last 6 years and he's looked after it well. Any advisory or thing it's ever needed it went straight to the garage and got sorted so know it's been well kept. Not quite the attention to detail I would have regarding bodywork and mods etc but still mechanically sound.
Cheers,
Chris

I have been saying for years that I will go to iom and now the time has come lol. That must be a long way for people to go from Shetland?
-
Anywhere is a long way to go from Shetland. haha.
Any trip to the mainland with a vehicle starts with a 14 hour over night boat trip from Shetland to Aberdeen (which in bad weather in the middle of the north sea can be an interesting crossing ) Then have to drive from Aberdeen to wherever you're going. Boat isn't cheap either, last time I took my car down then it was over £400 for me and my dad plus the car.
IOM will be amazing though and as you said it's got to be done at least once!

Yeah, I do like it! Does everything and more than I need!
Your fazer looks tidy btw!

Cheers Beej, it's taken a long time to do bits and pieces to it. Like any project it'll never be finished, there are always things that can be improved (next on the list is to get the rear swing arm gloss black to go with the frame and front forks). I'm pleased with where it's at now though. Balanced the carbs and re-gapped the plugs just before I took her out this year and my god it runs sooooo smooth now. Love it, it's only 600 but it's more than enough for me and for the roads up here.
Cheers,
Chris

I know what you mean.
I had the throttle bodies balanced on my gsxr and that made a world of a difference with its idle and general running, however, the fact I was running a k&n and full exhaust system on it meant it needed properly calibrated, so the idle was never going to be that smooth with a power commander.
I have just changed the screen on the zed for a puig one, fitted a tail tidy, changed the cans for some tasty sounding Beowulf ones and fitted iridium plugs. I will be getting a solo seat cowl for it at some point and a radiator guard are next on the list! I'll dig out a picture of it and the others for you (as we all love a picture whore!)
-
Haha, was just going to say I need to see pics of it!
Looking forward to seeing it.

All nice and clean too! If you're ever tempted for a trip up to Shetland and need a tour guide then give me a shout :drinking:
Back on the car, have started a members ride thread so will hopefully get some updates in there soon :jumpmove:
