Just for a bit of a laugh, picture this... Take your car as it was when it left the factory, completely stock. You're only allowed to modify 3 things on it, no more and remaps are not allowed. What would you choose? Start by stating the car you have.
I have a 2012 Golf R. Personally, I'd opt for anti roll bars, a high pressure fuel pump and a Haldex controller. Get the engine running as best it can and then make sure the chassis can use all the power all of the time. :happy2:
What about you?
EDIT: Added no remaps into the title...

An Edition 30 needs a remap. For only 3 mods I'd have to buy another car better prep'd from factory...
I could think of the Golf mk7 GTI Clubsport S Edition 40.
1-Öhlins Road & Track coilovers
2-AP 6-pot (CP7068-1000R2.CG12) with 355 mm floating 2-piece discs
3-TBE with Powervalve system

It's interesting to read the responses so far, seems there's a real split between handling and power when choosing just three modifications...
-
Since you can't remap I don't see the point in doing any engine mods except maybe intake and or exhaust since you have the noise factor.
MK5 GTI
KW V1's
Forge 6 pots

1. Fully forged 2.5TFSI Engine inc BT and everything needed to fit it into a Golf (it's a single job.....(best not to argue with me on this point)
2. Full Lamborghini front and rear BBK (in Lamborghini Yellow) with Ceramic Discs and full single nut hub convention with OZ Race Wheels........(once again a single job for thst lot I believe)
3. Oh and if it's not too much Id like a California scent in Coronado Cherry.
3.1 Quick trip to see Niki for a custom Stage 3 map while you're all still busy fitting ARBS and lows to your cars! :innocent:

Remaps not allowed. This would also mean your forged engine with BT wouldn't run properly as that requires a remap too.

No point in HPFP on stock map.

- TTRS brakes with the Project MU pads but with 2 piece 362mm discs
- Front/Rear anti roll bars (that only counts as one right?)
- H&R Coilovers.

I disagree, I ran a HPFP on my stock map and noticed much smoother power delivery. Granted, it's not going to give you good gains like using an air filter instead, but my focus was on smoother, more reliable power that than number chasing.
-
Placebo I imagine.
If the ECU is requesting 100bar for example and the OEM pump makes 100bar (i.e. meets requested) then putting on a upgraded HPFP will still result in 100bar (as requested by the ECU) of fuel pressure regardless of its headroom. There is no reason why the OEM pump on an OEM block and ECU will fail to maintain requested.
Where you run into issues is when the OEM pump cannot keep up with requested. My stage 2 would benefit from a Loba HPFP because the OEM pump struggles to maintain requested rail pressure throughout the entire RPM range.
-
Placebo I imagine.
You only came into this thread for an argument!!
Plus I saw you on Pistonheads, you are a big meanie!!

Being on stage 2 aswell :surprised:

That's my evidence to suggest I wasn't making it up once I fitted a HPFP to a stock engine/ECU and felt smoother power delivery, especially at the top end. I'm not suggesting it increases engine performance, only smooths it out.

Right, lets all stop it and just play nicely. This is a bit of fun about what YOU would do, not what you THINK should be done. It's just a little thought experiment to see whether people preference power, handling or a bit of a mix. Or in the case of @MC71 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=4913) then just plan lunacy. And a distinct lack of respect for the rules.
I got time for tearing up the rule book, but not in my post. :P
-
If no remaps, then power mods are useless.
1. Coilovers
2. ARBs
3. Polybush
-
Play by the rules people :fighting2:
-
Just put "in my opinion" before any statement and it's all good. It's like being extremely harsh to someone, then going "it's just banter, lol" afterwards. Technically, it's alright then...
-
Did you know :signLOL:
That anti lift kits and lowering coilovers etc help the power output of a car automatically when fitte?.

If you don't want banter be it witty, pointless, contrary or (heaven forfend) arguments breaking out mid thread then you're in the wrong place.

But seriously, there's been some good answers so far. Strictly speaking Martin, your idea of running a larger engine could work, if you can run a stock one with good power. Anyone else looked at the 3.0TFSI V6 engine and wondered how to make it fit into a Mk5/6 engine bay?

Polar Fis - best non performance mod there is as long as you have highline
BBK
ohlins suspension
after all surely the key(s) to performance motoring are decent brakes and suspension?
-
I'd search around for an anti roll bar / coilover package deal (so I could have both)
Brake upgrade
TBE
One of those would be sacrificed for a VCDS cable if I didn't already have one.
-
1) Rear ARB
2) RCD510
3) Color code bumpers
