Right can someone clear this up for me, just took off my neuspeed induction kit (for sale In the classifieds) for an oversize foam ram air one because I felt it was too noisy and hoped the foam one would be less noisy. However the new one is equally as noisy. I don't mean just a little bit noisy but EXTREMELY noisy inside the cabin, violently loud sucking noises and a big let off sound whenever I lift of the throttle even when it's only been depressed very very slightly. Also whistles a lot even when just cruising along on the motorway. Is this normal and what I should be expecting from an open induction like this or could there be a problem somewhere ? Does everyone else has this noise ? My friend has an a3 2l tfsi and you can barely here his induction inside the cabin which is why I'm so confused !
Thanks in advance, Sam

Thats normal for a ram air kit. I wouldnt say mines mentally loud though hardly any noise at light throttle. Etc. mines dsg though so revs stay quite low just pottering around
-
It is normal, I Love it lol.
-
I switched kits because I thought my other one was just outrageous but seems they both are
sounds like the induction pipe is literally inside the cabin can hear it over the stereo. Just thought it may not be normal as my friends a3 is a lot more refined with only the occasional woosh being heard from inside the cabin. Read something about 'noise pipes' in a gti?

Maybe the audi just has more sound deadening inside the cabin so you hear it less. My ramair was noisy as hell too.

have you removed your engine insultation? removing it will make things sounds a lot louder. I swapped out my gauze filter for a ram air filter. it sounds louder but not stiupid loud.
It sounds nice when half throttle going through gears, such a nice whistles. then let off is quite loud.
Just enough to let people know your not stock!
-
Maybe yeah but must have a hell of a lot more! In fairness the Gti is extremely loud engine wise compared to the A3 anyway inside the cabin.
@Paradox1 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=9564) you mean the deadining on the bonnet ? No thats still in place.
Are these 'noise pipes' only in US spec gti's?
-
Can't help with your specific problem unfortunately but I can say that while a Revo is audible it has none of the irritations you've talked about. It's very inoffensive to live with.
-
@flashp (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=5579) Confuses me though as i'm sure its something to do with the cars cabin design/engine bay rather than the kit. Cant see how any of these kits could sound so much different inside the cabin when they are essentially exactly the same thing
Unless its something to do with my diverter valve ?
-
Right, changed my Diverter valve today from a rev b which must have been in there from day 1!! To a Rev g. Difference in power is ridiculous and all the stupidly loud noises I was referencing to have now all disappeared. (Cannot even explain how loud it was) all solved by a new valve, intake sounds brilliant now and not too intrusive!

@gunnellgti (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=15739) hi I had exactly the same problem with mine some months back.
Please can you tell if you felt the car was lacking power too as my car sounded extremely loud just as you're description and couldn't explain how mega stupidly loud it was both inside and even more so outside :stupid:
Is your car a dsg by any chance?.

It's my first gti so wasn't sure but felt it was missing something , after changing today I took it for a drive and it's something else! Feels like it's been remapped ! It's a manual though mate
-
Ah thanks for the reply mate. mime was causing over revving and one of the fellas did mention the dv buy stupid me didn't have time to check it and sold my neuspeed P-flo pipe and Ramair over sized filter because I didn't realise the dv was torn until last week when I decided I'd fit my GFB dv + in. the car does fell like it's been remapped though :jumping:
Shame I will never know unless I buy another filter kit.
Thanks for the reply again :drinking:

@r5gtt (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=11199) no problem mate!
Well yeah I've just brought a ram air in replace of my Neuspeed because i thought that would make it less noisy but now i know it was all the dv I've wasted my time a bit!
You should definitely but another induction ... Ive a Nuespeed for sale in the classifieds!!
-
Thanks @gunnellgti (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=15739) I think i will buy one when I have the spare cash to throw away like I did at one point.
If you knew how much I paid for mine you'd practically give yours to me FOC :signLOL:
-
eh? dont think i would
