Wow, in all the 150 billion miles the car has done, I've never experienced Turbo lag like this :(
I've recently serviced it, with new plugs, Oil, Filter air etc.
No errors codes, but very laggy, then full power and strong.
I haven't checked Cam Follower yet, but replaced around 10k ago.
Still has original turbo in 158k, perhaps dieing? Bless her. :(
-
Diverter valve maybe?
-
I'd say check the DV too - I've also experienced turbo lag and a nice new Reg G soon sorted that problem out for a mere £40 or so.
PS @shoaybmakda (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=12148) I've lost your number - please text me or summat.
-
Diverter valve maybe?
I had this ^^^ torn apart and intermittent boost.
-
I have my spare revision G dv on ebay at the mo item number 301951644034
If you find out yours if torn you can have it for £17 delivered, pm me if so

DV fix is an easy one. I installed the GFB DV+. Super easy install! Check it out
-
If you are getting full power in higher rpm then it may not be the DV....... Worth checking it though, alog with checking pipes for signs of leakage.... after that a datalogging session on VCDS would be the next step
-
Thanks for the replies, I've replaced the DV more times than I can count, there's a Rev D in there now as I was sick of swapping the diaphragm Rev G's out, perhaps I've melted the plastic piston, lol.
It pulls well midrange, very laggy low down, where as it's always been ready to go at low revs, its caught me out a few times now... Possibly pipework... Think it needs good look over, Dv, pipework, cam follower, real time scan...
Noticeably this has only started since I did the last oil change a couple of hundred miles ago... No oil leak, oil level fine... Hmm.
-
Any oil seepages from the intercooler pipes? You normally get more noise from the turbo than usual if some boost is blowing by an O-ring.
Rev Ds are reputed to leak, so could be time to upgrade to the GFB DV+.

Got the car in the Air atm, diverter valve out, Rev D, can't really tell if it's busted tbh, the piston moves in and out, is there any other way?
Re: Oil seepeage, yeah there is, check out this image:

Not a lot of oil but certainly some, the seals have never been replaced to my knowledge in 155k, but they aren't split, I guess any oil marks indicates it is leaking though...
Anyone know a part number for the seals? Cheers
-
Seal: 3C0145117H
I think the Hose is: 1K0 145 832 E and comes with the Seals, so might worth buying the Hose?
Re-scanned it and there was an error code, the usual P0299, which can mean pipework / DV or dieing Turbo (eek)
1 Fault Found:
000665 - Boost Pressure Regulation: Control Range Not Reached
P0299 - 002 - Lower Limit Exceeded - Intermittent
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 00100010
Fault Priority: 0
Fault Frequency: 3
Mileage: 246350 km

Underboost code. Can't view the images in work but if you have oily deposits then you are leaking boost. Would be a good place to start!
Rev D won't be busted unless the solenoid is failed, but then you would have a code relating to the DV
-
Thanks mate, I've had the same code before and each time it was the DV split (RevG), which is why I went with the RevD.
Think it's probably wise to grab new intercooler hose + DV and go from there.
Actually, are there any benefits to aftermarket intercooler hosing? The Silicon ones?

Does it come with a free million mile warranty? :jumpmove:
Seriously though, how many miles has it done mate, was is it in a K04? I'll probably take it mate, if you're able to send out, I'll PM you bud.

Can't see the pics either but I'm guessing it's a tidy little leak!
Yeah one benefit is getting rid of those leaky connections! Unfortunately you need to upgrade the intercooler in order to delete two of them.
The biggest leak seems to come from the metal discharge pipe, on mine at least. Thanks to VW's useless engine mounts, there's a lot of movement and it wears out the hose clip, the O ring and the tangs on the metal part of the hose. I replaced the O ring and clip for that pipe and all was good for a month or so, then it started leaking again. So for that reason I've gone for an aftermarket discharge pipe which does away with the silly clips / O rings.
-
From looking at the picture it's leak and doesn't look fresh but has leaked over time.
It's a very good idea to do away with these silly designed piping and go for some silicone alternatives as recommended above.
I'll certainly do the same once the Fmic of my choice is going to be fitted.
-
Think I'll just go OEM if the Intercooler needs to be done too.
Yeah, the Leak seems old and to be coming from underneath the metal / pipe junction of the Hose at the Turbo side, defo getting the hose too.
1K0 145 832E -£22.99 delivered (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Seat-Toledo-Leon-Altea-Skoda-Octavia-Superb-turbo-Intercooler-Pipe-1K0145832E-/161750708944?hash=item25a917f2d0:g:5mEAAOSw9N1VlD1S) Comes with the O-Rings so may as well.

So, just to confirm, that I can't just use something like this with the OEM intercooler setup?

No the intercooler doesn't need to be replaced but I'm sure the ends of both RHS IC and joining pipe need to be hack sawed off but not a big issue there as a decent set of mikalor super clamps will certainly hold the new pipe in place.
Cheap enough part tbh so which ever route you take will be okay.

If they are the correct ones for the tfsi then why not. I'm sure I've seen those for the 180 bhp tt ?
Just seen the link and they'll be fine although I'm not keen on red myself.
Still need new O rings.
-
Good point, think I'll just OEM this time, it is a fault finding exercise after-all, lol.
-
They are just silicon replacements for the OEM rubber hoses, which themselves are fine, it's just the stupid O-ring / clips that's the problem. The silicon ones still have those!
If you're going OEM for an intercooler, the old aluminium S3 one or MK6 R are good upgrades and plug and play. Neither have the O ring & clip connections!

Maybe a good idea lol

I'll definitely keep those in mind if cheaper than an after market one with piping and hose clamps which I doubt but a lot more hassle to fit on than oem.

Just for future on-lookers, the new 1K0 145 832E (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Seat-Toledo-Leon-Altea-Skoda-Octavia-Superb-turbo-Intercooler-Pipe-1K0145832E-/161750708944?hash=item25a917f2d0:g:5mEAAOSw9N1VlD1S" class="bbc_link" target="_blank") solved it, swapped out tonight, replaced old DV, cleared fault, took it for a long'ish spirited ride, no errors :happy2:
-
Thanks for the update Scottymon ans glad you've sorted the issue out
-
Nice one. Good price for that hose. It's getting on for 4x that from the stealer!
