Has anyone fitted a G65 sensor
Part number 1K0-959-126-A
-
Youll need a crows foot spanner.
-
Something like these that you can put on a 3/8" extension.

Obviously youll need metric ones.

Thanks @rich83 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=709)
Location wise, don't suppose you could tell me the general area. Can I inspect if before I get dismantling?
-
Ohh... its in front of the block between the block and the radiators.
Its in a vertical position with the electrical connector on top. Its a pig to get to.
-
@rich83 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=709) could you tell me, is this the G65 sensor highlighted by the red circle I've put in?
That doesn't look too difficult to change, just twist counterclockwise?

-
That is the G65 @lukemk5gti (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10176)
You will require a 17mm crows foot or something you can get down there with enough room to lever it. It's very tight down there let me tell you so better to buy the right tool for the job with a long 3/8 drive extension bar and rachet.
Hope that helps.
-
Went out for another look there. So I actually need to get the crows foot down under to the bottom of the sensor to twist off!
I actually have a set of 90degree ratchet spanners at home so if it's of a decent length I'll do that!
Probably pick up the part from VW on Friday when I drop it in!
Thanks lads
-
Called up VW
It's €82 just for the sensor
So this is the cheapest one on eBay. Not too worried about lifetime operation, could I just throw this in?

or this one from aliexpress

Thats the f*cker
-
you'll also need an o-ring seal - separate part number, not usually sold by e-bay sellers.
-
^^^ dealer job.
-
I could pick that up Friday.
Anybody able to help with a part number for that o-ring?
-
O-Ring:
Seal: 8E0 260 749 C - £0.77
-
Ordered my crows foot spanners today, they'll be in at 3pm!
O-Ring will be in VW on Wednesday
Sensor arrived this morning.
Gas system on Thursday.
-
Good luck.
Let us know how you get on :happy2:

@lukemk5gti (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10176)
just to give you a heads up on my aircon problem.
went to see my mechanic this morning to book the car in to have the aircon and a few other bits sorted.
he hooked the car up to his diagnostic machine and was able to tell me that the compressor was actually working.
a few other faults for other things showed up so he cleared them all.
on my way home the aircon started to work perfectly!!
going to see if it continues to work until i bring the car back to him and if it does he ill service and regas it anyway.
if it stops again he will rescan the car for faults and fix the problem either way.
just glad to have a nice cool cr with this great weather we are having :driver:

That was the same as mine. Compressor is fine and air con worked intermittently.
It was the G65 sensor failing.
-
Ok lads, need some help!!
Fitted the new G65 and gassed the system.
Air con still not blowing cold.
The error code showing the faulty G65 is now gone after VCDS scanning but I have a new code shown below in it's place:
01314 - Engine Control Module
004 - No Signal/Communication - Intermittent
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
-
Clear that fault and start again?.
-
Did that!!
Now I'm scanning measuring blocks in car and while I have the fans full blast on cold that the compressor is 0A
That sound like a faulty compressor? Wouldn't that show in VCDS?
-
I've read another thread on here and there's also a sensor on the compressor itself so that could be fault although I'd simply replace the compressor to not waste anymore time or money.
I would think it would show a faulty compressor. look ot up in vcds (auto hvac) in try swithing the compressor on, if that fails replace compressor.
-
Turned the engine on and scanned measuring blocks again and it shows compressor now running?

-
Easiest way to check if it's working is pop the hood and check if the centre of the compressor rotating?, if yes compressor working. Then turn off ac and check and now it should not be rotating.
-
Very rookie question. Where is the compressor located? I thought it was half hidden under the passenger side cowling
-
Drivers side underneath the alternator.
-
Got it!
So I turned ignition on but not the engine so I could hear it better.
That compressor is not making any noise. I can only hear a fan behind the passenger side cowling.
Any other way I can rule out the compressor being faulty through vcds?
-
Engine has to be running in order for ac to work. It's opposite the sensor you replaced :signLOL:
-
Does engine have to be running though? Turned ignition over and fans were blowing.
Anyway. The engine is making so much noise that I can't hear the compressor rocking over! How else can I hear it?
Is changing the compressor a big job?
-
I didn't say hear it, I said have a look at it. :signLOL:
When ac is turned on, revs will suddenly drop under engine load so start the bloody car and get your torch light down there :slap:
-
Hahaha!!
Ok I did do that and I couldn't tell if it was running. I imagine if it did kick in that I'd notice a good bit of vibration or something from it but nothing!
I'll take a better look when I have someone with me tomorrow.
Looking online, it looks to be very very expensive!!!
-
If you're patient you can here it click on and off but judging by what your saying it's probably fookered as it is a common fault.
-
I'll rule it out tomorrow at lunch!
Looking like its done for. I don't fancy shelling out €1000 plus for it considerin I just wanted to get my alloys resurfaced so it looks like I'll go Windows done for the foreseeable future!
As always @r5gtt (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=11199) thanks very much for your help! You're a gent!
-
Lol of only I was :signLOL:
Seriously £1000  ebay job buddy or even breaking gti's on ebay. £40 -£100 can't be as bad as the above price.
:happy2:
