Title: K04 question
Post by: Markis236 on May 16, 2016, 06:27:52 pm
Looking at getting a garage to do a k04 conversion on my car I want to buy a second hand turbo but iv got mixed feelings about this so looked at the rovo one ! And it will be 1500 inc vat ! Is it worth spending that money on one part ?

Out of interest, how much do BYD engines fetch on the bay?  Just thinking you get a stronger engine with the K04 turbo and could be more cost effective

I think its silly to buy a K04 from the likes of revo etc. that's at lot of money, I'm use its not even that much from Audi/VW.

You can pick up a k04 turbo for about 3-400quid. Id say just get the parts in bits, pick up deals where you can to keep the cost down.

No idea where that £450 has appeared from but it's around £2000 iirc

That was just to get an idea of what you will need for a build.

Get your garage to do the k04 install but don't buy a k04 for 1500. that's stupid money.

if your fitting an exhaust get that done the same time as the turbo to save on labour costs and make sure you have EVERYTHING you need. There is a list of parts which would be beneficial to you.

Saying that.... have you driven a stage 2 gti? they are rapid. may be enough for you instead of jump on the k04 bandwagon???

I'm sure it does already tbh.
I Love the zero lag of these k03 turbos. if you shift at the right time, before boost tails off, not much can catch you.

For that money though, you may as well go Beach buggy turbo or TTE420

Sort of... but the TTE420 doesnt come with all the ancileries you need to do the KO4 based upgrade.

Aye but surly with the right tune and mods on a k04 it should leave a ko3 stage 2+ in the dust ?

I think that's  dependant on the "right mods and tune"
