hello all im after a driection to take with sorting my gti
my car has had a remap (apr i think )and has 3"turbo back exhaust inc decat has the oversized induction kit (ITG) .
had a full top end rebuld inc invalve stem seals head gasket ect at psi tuning in 2012 (50k ago) and the pcv is fine (done all the tests)
The problem im having is when the car is up to temp im getting grey smoke out the exhaust when pulling from a stop and when i go on hard acceleration i get a ploom of it then it clears ,   if i turn the car off wile its up to temp and nip into the shops lets say it will smoke on start up for a second or two .
The car doesent seem to smoke on start up when cold and doesnt seem to smoe on normal driving wile its not up to temp until i have a stab at the throttle to merge into traffic lets say, and  i get a very small puff bearly noticable .
 I have been reading into catch cans ect and im getting mixed reviews but i saw this on google and i followed a link and the guy did this to a ttrs and seems to have got good results from it .
He had 2 catch cans one on the front (in the pic) and another on the rear both in line of normal pcv and still getting the vac needed ??
would this work to get oil out ovf my intake ect or is it a waist of time and im barking at the wrong tree ??

This is a TSI engine isn't it?

I'm not sure if the catch tank has been installed correctly

Its a different way to most i have seen but this way keeps the vac line in the loop ???

Hi mate, I could have got one for £100 ready to fit but was told by the gurus on this forum not to bother so I wouldn't bother if I were you.

You issue could be the piston rings but that's usually blue puffs of smoke.

I had a car that occasion had a smoke and cylinder one was goosed as two valves were bent after a t belt failure and I was non the wiser back then and it was first turbo charged car. fiat uno turbo. the guy who changed the belt didn't tell me about the valves and as I said I was non the wiser then. I could be wrong in this but someone more experienced should know.

Bought a catch tank system but it made it worse so that was removed straight away

The cat back exhaust system also causes grey smoke as I remember now and I also said the same thing to a fellow tt owner who has the same problem with his system he had fitted although that was a new system. Mine was a used milltek and I did notice a lot of grey smoke but never thought anything of it as I knew it was after fitting the exhaust thay caused the smoke.

A compression test may be worth doing as an indicator.
