Hi,recently posted in the new members section and since have done a LOT of reading! The ed I bought is on an 07 plate with 35k and just wanted to get some feedback from members and all about what I should be replacing. I will be going stage 1 re-map when warranty runs out so wanted to get the car in tip top shape beforehand.
1. Cam belt/chain kit
Should I replace this as I know it has only done 35k or will age be a factor in this,I usually do replace this kind of thing early on purchase of a new car for peace of mind but would I be wasting money?
2.DV
Have read an awful lot about these failing and the upgrade to a Rev G,once again I'm a noob to the gti so I wouldn't know if I'm lacking in power or if it is actually faulty so is it worth upgrading regardless?
3.PCV
another thing that has popped up in a lot of gti chat is the PCV. Same as before, wouldn't know if this was faulty but as I've got a few quid to spend would this be a necessity or a peace of mind repair and worth doing?
4.WHAT ELSE
anything else that I should look into or may want to consider that anyone has had issues with, please let me know
Thanks for reading and am very thankful in advance for any replies.the car is cosmetically pristine (maybe a wheel refurb needed) but just wanted to get the mechanical side of things up to scratch before adding more power..go easy on me...I'm a noob!!

Forgot to say...I'm in Essex (southend) so if any other members are local and wish to meet and take it out for a spin let me know

Cam belt - depends when/if its been done already. Every 40k for me
Cam chain - it isn't technically a serviceable item. BUT some people do change them. The sympton of a failing cam chain is a very noticeable diesel like noise when the engine is warm. If your engine sounds healthy (good to get an opinion from someone with experience if possible) then I wouldn't bother. It really depends.
DV - wait until your current DV fails (you might get a fault code relating to boost) or you might just notice the lack of power, and then replace with a REV G
PCV - the test for a failing PCV is to pull the dipstick out on idle. If the engine sounds like it starts to stutter then your PCV is fine.
One thing I would say definitely do is the cam follower - especially if you don't know that it has been changed before. Its around £35 from VW and a relatively simple job.

Thanks peskyjones ,I think just for piece of mind I'll get the cam belt done and will have a bash at the cam follower myself as I don't mind a bit of DIY and there is a great step by step thread on here

Yep sounds good.
the cam follower is not a bad job on an eddy
