Hello everybody,
I'm sure this has been discusssed a number of times, but I was wondering whether anybody can give me a definitive list of the parts needed to upgrade to the OEM 345mm brakes (Found on the S3/R32/Cupra).
Thanks in advance,
Faz

Calipers, carriers, disk, pads, dust shields and brake lines

I was going to upgrade to 345mm s3's. But after a lot of heavy braking the fade is bad like the standard brakes. Nornal day to day braking is awesome though. But I decided to spend another £100 or so and got some 4 pots.
-
Thanks for the details guys! :)
I'm planning on sticking to the OEM items as I'm not going to do any track work, and the extra expense which I assume will no doubt come with having the 4 pots just doesn't seem worth it to me.
I must confess they do look better though!

Yeah they look awesome under the alloys. The gti should have come with better brakes from the factory as they are pretty poor and too small.

Any idea of ballpark costs for that lot?

Thanks for all your replies guys.
Would S3 8p Calipers & Carriers fit? (sorry for the daft question)
What else aside from the brake lines and dust shields would I need for the above set up?
Thanks again,
Faz

Yes they will fit
Calipers+Carriers
Dust shields
Brake lines
Discs
Pads

Thanks Rich!

Anybody able to help me out with OEM part numbers for the brake lines to make the S3 brakes fit?
Are they the ones marked as Flexi Hose in the post by @bigmig95 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=3271) above?
Thanks,
Faz

Never mind - I'm sure I can pick them up cheaply enough from TPS :)
I just need the part numbers :)

Why not fit braided lines instead? From HEL, Goodridge or custom made, for example.

I don't know which to buy? In terms of cost they are probably very similarly priced ~£30/40 for the pair. I've just seen a few threads on here where people have ha to make modifications to the connectors etc, and its not something I feel comfortable with on something like the brakes.
If you know of direct fit braided brake lines, I'd love to know which ones are a good fit :)
-
My mechanic had to modify the connectors of the HEL braided lines I got and I saw him replying in a different forum that all brands need some connector modifying to make them fit like the OEM ones. If you want plug&play lines I guess you'd have to buy custom made to your preference. The mod required seems simple but only for mechanics, I guess.

Are they the same for both sides?

That's the thing I had seen. I'm trying to do it myself and as I have no plans on tracking the car I don't think I will have any noticeable benefit in going for braided lines.

Yup. You can use HEL but make sure they have the angled banjo onto the caliper for correct fitment. Should be a photo on the forum somewhere, I've sold them before.
An OEM purchase off TPS might be easier for peace of mind ?

Can i use HEL lines without any modifications IF they have the angled banjo for fitment onto the caliper? Or would I still have to do some modification to make them work?
Thanks again!,

I was under the impression the only modifying you have to do is adjust where the braided lines click onto the securing bracket?

Buy the R32 HEL lines and you won't have to do any modding AFAIK
-
I bought R32 HEL lines for my GT Sport and my mechanic had to get a different bolt for the lines. I complained but the store told me that they sold a lot with no issues. It was easily fixed and since then I had no issues with the lines.

Imho you'd be mad not to go for upgrade to braided lines, particularly if it seems you'll need new hoses anyway?
You can feel the positive difference at the pedal, with the braids.

Speak with @vRSAlex (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1981) (aks tuning) he will ensure you get the correct fitment and more than likely on his shelf
