Title: FFS......NOOOOOO
Post by: MC71 on May 31, 2016, 12:29:28 pm
I'm in Spain for a few weeks so a hire car is required. My family have been using a local, indie Spanish company for getting onto 30 years so I phoned them up a week ago......"Buenos tardis seƱor Martin, we have something lovely for you, brand new in, you are the first to drive her".

Mrs MC cannot stop laughing. Niki really REALLY needs to work some magic on this......if it's got 60bhp (with the A/C off) I'll eat my left nut. TBF if it had more power it would roll right off the road going round a corner, handling wasn't in the design brief!

Apparently it's a Smart car, there's an oxymoron if you ever heard one.......

^^^^  Yes.

The villa is up in the hills so you have to turn the A/C off at the bottom or your f*cked, no way this bad boy is getting up there otherwise.

That's not much of a Smart car...

Shares the same chassis and body with the Renault Twingo:

Just like the A class MB have 1.5 dCi Renault engines...

I'm in Crete at the moment, and have a loveley tornado red VW - but it's an Up!

Not a bad little car to be fair, but in this colour, and festooned with rentacar stickers, it seems to be a "red rag to a Greek",  and no-where is too dodgy for them to attempt to overtake me!
Don't recall similar issues last year in a baby-blue Up.

Pity you, with that car, and that colour scheme?!?

Mmmmmm. Nice.

Whenever I end up in something like this for a few days I always try and get a positive from it. As in overcoming the crippling lack of power by executing perfect racing lines over roundabouts and through bends to avoid shedding speed (traffic and conditions permitting) thereby making me a better, safer driver overall.

Drove an Up for a few days last year. It wasn't bad really. Sounded lovely. Ish. Definitely had a (half of a) V6 growl

@AJP (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=11926)

Trying to avoid shedding excess speed isn't a problem........brakes are sh*te!! Plus as it handles like a steaming soft dog turd executing perfect racing lines would take the driving skills of Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton combined.

As for the VW Up ive given that serious thought as a 2nd car, took one out last year,  as you say not bad (although the one I drove was the "Groove" Edition ).

It might look like a smart 2nd car but as you tested, it's actually not that "Smart".  :signLOL:
