Hello All,
Just wanted to change my RCD300 with a 6 CD Changer to an RNS310. I drive a 55 plate Golf 1.9TDI MkV. I understand that the RNS310 is more complex, and therefore, more battery draining. I have heard that I will require more additional add-ons along with the system itself. Honestly, I just want someone to clear up things a little bit for me please.
1. Will I still be able to use my 6 CD Changer?
2a. What is a CAN gateway? Will I need to change my current one for my new radio? How difficult is this process, especially re-programming everything? Is there somewhere which I can go to have all of this done for a fee?
2b. What else may be necessary along with my new RNS310 fitting?
3. How will I update the navigation maps, when and if necessary?
Any questions, please ask as I will reply very quickly.
Thank you in advance

from my knowledge (limited) the RNS is a newer generation unit and would cause battery drain on your car. you can get a newer canbus module or a reprogrammed one which will fix that issue. You would also need an aerial cable, as the newer units have a different connection.
