Title: Removed aftermarket alarm can't start car
Post by: Gtimkvman on May 31, 2016, 05:05:36 pm
Hi guys first post long time browser,
Removed an aftermarket alarm from my 06 GTI yesterday, can't get it to start now, should have started the car as I was going along removing the alarm..

The wires that were spliced into we're the solid black and black/yellow on the drivers side fuse box, and a red wire coming from the starter, reconnected the starter wire as it was cut about an inch, taped up the wires in the drivers fuse box and nothing's happening, will put some pictures up in the next hour.

car was running perfectly before I took it out  :sad1:

No lights on the dash when ignition is on, if I connect the two spliced wires in the drivers side fuse box under the dash I get lights on ignition and then clicking when I try to turn it over.

Will have to call an auto elec if I can't sort it out by tomorrow.

That looks well butchered.
Check your fuse boxes for any blown fuses or even missing fuses.
Have you joined those reds wires in the engine bay together?.

I know everything was just duck taped in, I'll look into that now yeah, I did and it didn't make a difference

I'd keep those red wires joined as they were most likely split to fit the immobilizer in between or something.

You are going to have to trace the wires from the fuse box to the ignition and starter motor as I'm guessing the fault lyes somewhere around there. I hope.
Also check the starter motor to make sure all wires are in tact as it could have a splice into the starter switch off the starter motor.

Got it fixed, 600 euro later... main fuses were blown one of the main wires was dead or something, an earth wire under the steering wheel was wired to a live outlet courtesy of the call out auto elec so that messed up more things, got it remapped as well while it was in happy with it now, it'll be rice and beans for the month  thanks for the help mate !!
