Hi all just wanted to know if anyone's tried these and if they're value for the money?.
Thanks

be interesting to hear about this as I've just bought a set of eibach sportsline but undecided on shocks as of yet...
-
My cars on eibach springs and bilstein shocks (but they are yellow) not sure on part no of them but they are a good ride and give a nice ride height
-
Thanks guys, the yellow ones are B8 me thinks. these are b4 so theres bound to be some difference in them.
I hope someone can help as I'll go for a set of these personally.
-
if you do go for them i'd be interested to hear how you get on. I used a set of eibachs on the standard shocks on my mk4 which improved things.
At 289 these look very good value (if they are any good)
-
Won't be anytime soon I'm afraid but when I do I'll post up and how they are in my build thread as I'd prefer to go for these instead of coilovers that I'll never use again.
-
Must be something in the air - I've just spent a couple of hours investigating the same thing.
I have a set of Eibach Sport Line springs waiting to be fitted to my standard dampers. I was thinking about replacing the dampers as well, and saw the B4 range.
The price is good for the whole kit that you linked to.
If you do buy, make sure that the Bilstien part number is correct, as some sellers are selling the incorrect part number (according to the Bilstein parts catalogue).
For a GTi it should be 22-140012 for front and 19-140025 for rears.
-
Thanks for that shail,
Good to know I'm not alone on thsee shocks :happy2:
I always make enquires before buying things like this as I do with anything tbh. don't want the hassle of retuning incorrect goods. lol
I also thought the price was decent which is why I asked about them. to buy everything in pairs eg two shocks is a lot more pricey.
-
As far as I know the b4's are entry level dampers and no better than oem shocks so it's a bit pointless - may as well just replace with oem.
You want either b6 or preferably b8 from Bilstein.
-
Oh well I'm not really look for major change as I did use new oem front amd monroe shocks wit amax lowering springs on my tt and I found them very good compared to the worn out 120k oem ones do anythings better than old ones. Although you're most likely not wrong and oem with probably be double the price.

That why I'm thinking about them. I'm happy with the OEM shocks, but my MOT picked up that 3 of them were 'misting'. If the B4s give the same performance as new OEM shocks then I'll be happy.
I was going to get my springs fitted at a garage, but I'm now going to DIY and what I save on labour will pay for new shocks. If they are sh*t then I'll just swap the OEM ones back and sell them.
-
Got Bilsteins and Eibachs on mine at the moment. Rides very well and is a good balance between comfort and handling. Also sits at a good height.. When really pushing on it feels like the car would benefit from some aftermarket anti roll bars.
-
Right update before buying and crying
Read reviews on the b4 and they're no good so don't bother buy them mate. thumbs down to those.
Thanks @Mark_DF05 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=9983) for the heads up. :drinking:
-
Like most things you get what you pay for
Had cheap coilovers on a mk4 few years ago, looked the part but the rise was horrendous
-
I used fk coilovers on my tt and took them of within two weeks as above ride was sh*te but looked good although the shock failed the day I had them fitted and will never use any sort of coilovers again. lowering springs and decent shocks from now on.
-
I'm still thinking about the b4 dampers to be honest. I e read differing views.
Thing with ride quality is that it's really down to preference.
I'll let you know how I get on!
-
Thanks shail :drinking:
I brought a front pair of genuine tt ones and monroe amd lowered 40mm on amax springs and the ride was brilliant better than the golf as standard and had a lot more grip but I think the eagle F1 tyre's also helped as I used to get spin going around corners with the Dunlop.
What tyres ypu running out of curiosity?.
Thanks
-
I'm running Continental Sport Contact 5 at the moment - they were on the car when I bought it. Decent tyre.
-
They're good tyres thanks for answering
I have sh*te budge Avon and some other rubbish on the back. keep forgetting the name. Good tread so will only replace when required with Eagle F1 only. I like the tyres.

I had B8's with Sportlines before the present set-up...that's a really good coupling...still have the B8's on paired with H&R SuperSports in front and H&R Street Performance Coilover springs and adjusters in back. But you will appreciate the B8's for life.

Thanks ROH ECHT for some reason I'll go with what your saying as I have faith in your judgment on this :drinking:
-
There's some b8's in the for sale section at the moment too..
-
Can't afford it at the moment but wanted to know how the B4 were.
Bloody heck they're pretty pricey these shocks ffs. :scared:
Thanks :drinking: @Mark_DF05 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=9983)

Had FK's on my last A3, they were just about bearable on 17's but once it had 18's on it the ride wasn't the best. Had some KW V1's on a Quattro A3 before that and it's the best suspension I've ever had on a car. Firm enough for a track day around Castle Combe but comfy enough to use every day..
If you buy coilovers for the same price as you'd pay for shocks and springs, you could end up having a bad time.
-
I wouldn't spend money on entry level dampers that are like normal Golf suspension, not even sport suspension like B6.
I went for H&R -30 mm springs with Koni Sports and spent £512. The dampers are adjustable and repairable. I don't know why here only talk about Bilstein dampers. Before the Ed. 30 I chose to get Koni FSD with Eibach Pro-Kit springs for my GT Sport and couldn't be happier with the setup. For the Ed. 30 of course I had to get a more sporty suspension since I want to go to track days with the car at least a couple of times per year.
-
The B4 I'm looking at are the versions specifically for the GTi / Ed30. Although you can get B4 for the other variants, the part numbers are slightly different.

They're still not a sport damper like the B6 and the B8 (which is the best to use with lowering springs).

The B4 is a stock ride height oem replacement. Not sure what suspension you plan to migrate to but would suggest considering if you plan to lower it in the future to get what you need long term.
Koni STR.T may be a flexible option for you as they work for stock or lowered heights and they're reasonably priced: https://www.ecstuning.com/Volkswagen-Golf_V--2.0T/Suspension/Shocks/ES2202631/

Hi ROH ECHT That's a good price
Where are these guys based as I recall buying something from the states and it cost me an extra £40 gbp for the price I paid of £160 thinking it was cheap and ended up with paying customs to release the deka injectors I ordered.
Thanks

ECS is in Ohio...didn't know if you could get these there or not...but you may find something comparable that would work for both stock and lowered stance. At the link below they might cost 250gbp for a complete set(plus taxes, as mentioned, if applicable): http://www.larkspeed.com/category/view/KONISTRTVW
I've heard from those that chose the STR.T's that they have a very nice ride and do not let them down when asking them for performance.
-
I can get Koni STR.T for €252.50 from my local dealer. That's almost £200. Check your local dealer @r5gtt (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=11199).
Koni Sports cost €464.40/£366.40, but they're better than Koni STR.T.
-
Thanks buddy once money comes rolling in I'll give them a shout :drinking:

I'm from Portugal and it's a local dealer: http://www.pneubeato.com/promocoes3.htm (http://www.pneubeato.com/promocoes3.htm).
I bought the Sports and the FSD from that store. The Golf mk5 dampers correspond to the 1st line of the table.
