Title: Needing a new gearbox

Hi all
Having issues with input shaft play on my gearbox on my mk5 golf gti manual. What I'm wanting to know is can I replace my gearbox code GVT with another gearbox code? And if I could would there be a better gearbox code to replace it with? I have read that after 2007 they had upgrades on the gearbox to stop the input shaft play so am I better just sticking with the same gearbox code and getting a post 2007 gearbox fitted?
