Title: What is the sensor on top of the dash?

I removed my front dash last night to install something on my head unit.

I have one of those top vents on the dash and I needed to disconnect a cable from it.

What does this cable do?

Thought auto lights and wipers were behind the rear view mirror?

It's a sunlight/temp sensor i believe, related to the climate control
