Hello, I wanna buy a gti. I saw a nice car but the engine, in my opinion, has a strange noise. Is it comun to this engines?
Thx
-
That doesn't sound normal......... can't comment as to what it can be though as not heard one sound like that before.
The GTI engine is fairly quiet on idle (with bonnet down of course) and is slightly noisier when bonnet is lifted up but nowhere near that bad.
I'd leave it alone, unless you can establish what is wrong with it.
-
Usually either worn cam follower, oil pick up pipe blocked or rattly cam chain, hard to tell which from video
-
rattly cam chain - very common.
-
You should only really hear the noisy injectors.
-
That sounds more like a rattling chain and worn out tensioner as I remember this on an A6 1.8T.
-
Personally I wouldn't let it put you off the car completely if you like it, providing the rest of the service history is good. It's not an uncommon thing to have to get replaced on the TFSI engine
-
the car has 140000mile with service history.
-
My mk1 tt was sold at 152k ans I never had any :stupid: issues but these tfsi engines are rubbish imho. may even resort back to the mk1 as I'm reading way too many horror stories and it's so putting me off this car even though I want to mod it before it goes just to feel some power lol

I get your pain r5gtt. I've done a load of money on mine since buying it in April. Gonna keep it for now and maybe get rid next year after I've justified all the money spent. Probably go back to a Jap Import scooby. Had a ten year old 1 for years and never had any issues with rust or mechanical. Servicing was cheap aswell.

Thanks mate @Craig Stanley (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=15958) seriously mate the gti is nice and punchy but too many horror stories and no wonder people are selling up and moving on :signLOL: May even get an Audi 3.2 S-Line as I was working on a crash damaged one today and my gosh it was lovely inside black leather Bose sound and I just fell in love with the sound on that exhaust. :jumping:
Nearly went for a scooby or evo but but scooby was too loud and misses didn't like that. The evo insurance company gave a ridiculous quote so I went for the GTi l after not finding the Golf R32 as people messing me around when offering £8k. After buying the gold o thought let me try another insurance company with the evo 8 and what my fu***** luck they wanted £400 fully comp and I was :slap: myself for weeks :sad1: would of been sat in a 300+ bhp evo right now.
Any way shouldn't be taking over someone else's thread sorry Dorin.

I agree, had my MR2 Turbo for 14 years - 285bhp and seriously reliable. Sat in the rain for 23 years now only in the last 2 years did a little rust need attention.

Very nice but never liked to seating position as my brother had an import j reg back in 1992 and it was the dogs at the time :signLOL:
-
Strange - its often lauded for its driving position but everyone is different.
-
I dislike the mazda mx5 for that too. Never liked thr seating position.

Just test drove a 2010 plate Cupra Ttsi as was thinking of defecting and what a shock. Apart from the gizmos like cruise sat nav xenons etc etc and 240bhp standard my 11 year old Golf drives and feels so much better. Feels more connected more sturdy and a lot more refined on the inside. Although I've had to pay out alot on it I have found my love back for it. Cheers Seat.
