Title: seat material
Post by: pablo_the_dogg on June 17, 2016, 02:02:56 pm
Bought a gti a few days ago which has a rip in the drivers side bolster. Struggling to get a material match for the upholsterer. Does anyone know where I can get it from? Or do I need a full cover replacement from vw or something? Thanks

It's amazing isn't it. We see all the TV programs showing amazing restorations of modern classics and all sorts of clever stuff being done and something simple seems impossible!  :fighting:

250 for a replacement off vw. That's just the back piece as well. I'd have to pay an upholsterer to fit it me on top of that.

@pablo_the_dogg (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=16365) is this any use? I know its rear seats but the material could be re-used lm sure?

£250 isn't a bad price off the dealer, I asked about the back of my driver side Pirelli cover £900 plus the vat...

Is this including fresh foam padding?

Watching this thread like a hawk as mine has similar damage.
Can you repair the foam in the bolster instead of a whole new foam back?

The upholsterer I spoke said that he would repair that section of foam.

Foam is fine in mine. I'm buying 1 square metre of material and my upholsterer is retriming all 3 pieces on the bolster.

Did you have to ask for 1sq metre of fabric as the site had it listed at 1m x 18cm?

It's 1m x the width of the roll which is 180cm

So I'm actually getting 1.8m2 I think lol

I have sent an email to Classic Car Services to see what the cost would be to resolve the common seat bolster issue. I have also advised there may a few of us from the forum that would be interested if the price is right  :happy2:

They offer anything all the way up to a full bespoke re-trim so they will cater for a panel repair, just waiting on the price.

Oh right. No good to me personally as I'm miles away but hope they sort you out. You owe me a beer then ha ha

Had an email back...

'For us to replace the 3 damaged sections of fabric and repair/ rebolster the foam underneath as they usually need a bit of TLC once the cover is off, will cost £280. The result should be as good as new'

A little costly unfortunately as I have found local folk who can do it at a fraction of that cost. Think I will source the material from them to ensure a perfect match however.
