Title: De-cat / Sports Cat with no remap?
Post by: emma on June 21, 2016, 09:26:59 am
Hi Guys

Last week i brought my mk5 golf gti, the engine light has come on which is caused by the cat. Have turned the light off and so far hasnt come back on. Still running absolutely fine.

I was thinking rather than replacing with a standard cat was looking at a de-cat or sports cat with exhaust system.

Are there any systems out there that arent 3"? or have people put a 3" system on without a stage 2 remap?

Also opinions on de-cat or sports cat?

Thanks :)

IF you fit a 3inch downpipe, you don't (need) a map...

but it will run rich and you with get a decrease in MPG as well as a check engine light.

but of course a decent remap can fix all of the above!

Any decat or sports cat will bring on the EML until mapped accordingly but the car will drive fine until then. If you do not want 'Stage 2' mapping then look for a used/second hand cat from here as there will be loads of people who have removed them and no longer need them

I can confirm that the car will run rich, as I am getting poorer by the mile  :scared:

i've got a 3"  pipewerx  downpipe and sports cat..  no EML and no adverse effects.  still 34mpg on a motorway run as before

How long have you had it fitted. it will more than likely come on eventually

Thanks guys!

Defiantly want to look at a stage 2 remap and exhaust system. Got a few prices for the work! :)

It may sound a bit raspy on cold start but it will quieten down once its warm.

Good compromise

just seen this.  it did come on once when i put some low quality fuel in due to no choice  but i bought a cable to turn it off. its never happened again.
