Title: High pitched humming noise when reversing?
Post by: lukemk5gti on June 22, 2016, 02:31:01 pm
Still can't find anything on this. Lately my car makes a high pitched hum when I reverse.

This my rear bushings?

Sounds like it's coming from the rear of the car around the wheels.

I'll try get someone to video me at lunch.

Haven't been able to replicate lately.

It seems that this noise is REALLY bad with wet weather and then slightly bad when the road is wet but as soon as conditions dry up I can't hear a thing!

Any thoughts?

I've noticed a noise similar to a sticking caliper whilst I'm in neutral and gently moving on a slight incline.

Could a sticking caliper or handbrake be causing something to rub?

I'd suspect sticky caliper or perhaps some scoring/buildup on the pads or disc etc. If you park the car up with the handbrake off and push the car ever so slightly forward, you should be able to feel it binding a little. Even easier would be to 'feel' each wheel (near the centre) after a long drive and see if one feels a fair bit hotter than the other
