Hi everyone,
I am new here.
I have a Golf MK5 GTI 2006 (55) 2.0 tfsi. Engine Code: AXX
The issues: Under powered ( Limp Mode ) - Knocking noise when engine is warm ( More noticeable in cockpit ), Oil pressure light when on ignition only ( Maybe faulty electrics )
Hi so my car has been suffering badly. When i start it in the morning the car idles ok and fine then when it warms up after a min or so the engine starts making a knocking sound the revs are ok and it seems to be idling ok. Also when you start it cold i think there is a chain noise for a second or so then normal. The car is also in limp mode and the engine management light is on.
The Engine management code: 000022 - Bank 1 CMP Sensor (G40) / Engine Speed Sensor (G28) Incorrect Correlation
P0016 - 002 Lower Limit Exceeded - MIL ON
Fault Status: 11100010
Fault Priority: 0
Fault Frequency: 1
After clearing the code it returns so there is obviously a fault. VVT Solenoid, Con rod ? ( I hope Not )
Any help would be amazing.

Hi, how many miles has it done? Generally the timing chain replacement wouldn't show in history as it's not supposed to be a serviceable item. However, you may find a receipt for it somewhere if it's been done.
I'm just changing mine now as the chain had snapped, bolt through the adjuster had also sheered and the tensioner was in bits. The chain even damaged the casing which I have now had welded. :wink:
It's an easy job to do as long as you have the locking tool for the cams. In my case I NEEDED to replace the chain, tensioner and adjuster as the small locating pin on the adjuster was also sheered off. A few pence worth of pin, but this is not available separately according to TPS!
Yours sounds a bit terminal though mate, not sure I'd drive it anywhere or start it before investigating it further.

I took it to a garage today for another look. They recon the knock is not a terminal knock. They recon i need to change the cam shaft position sensor as that came up again. I replaced it before with a cheap aftermarket however when i took it out at the top of the sensor it has a extremely small burn mark maybe the cheap one failed. I am going to change the oil using oils from vw and filters. See what happens lol. On idle its fine till it warms up when you start it cold you can clearly hear a chain noise for a few seconds.
If the cam position sensor change does not do anything i will take it to the garage as i have the chain kit. They will check timing and the chain and repair it all for 280 labour. Seems fair. They are a vw specialist.

Fancy doing my chain?? - I'm too worried about breaking something lol @Team Traxxion (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=16506) I saw the how too guide and I would most probably loose a pipe or a bolt or something!!

What about having the oil pick up pipe cleaned or replaced aswell.

My car is standard and 77500miles and just had mine replaced. It was pretty clogged up with carbon deposits.
