So last couple weeks been trying to find a noise i get when i start the car. Now after leaving the car for a week not started etc iv now got a new loud noise. Iv took it to my local mechanic and he seems to think its coming from the throttle body as he said its electronic and thinks it could be that going. Can anyone else help me out heres a video.

Wtf sounds like you have a generator running under there
-
I know mate i left it sat for 5 days come back and sounds like that goes after iv drove it for abit but its still there very faintly but its definatly coming from the throttle body by sounds of it
-
Check the fans as something could be touching them?
-
Would that happen as soon as i start it though as after while it goes away
-
It could well be the motor in the fan playing up and once it's warm is goes away but come back when it's stone cold.
-
So would that come on straight away then as that video is me just started the car up. Would the fan motor be working or on? Also if you slowly rev the car when it makes the sound the noise gets faster.
-
The fan shouldn't come on at this point but it is known to happen.
Have you had a look down in the bay for anything touching?.
-
No not yet as its only very faint now as iv drove it some more. Noise defo seems to be coming from top sonewhere near the throttle body i will have a look by the fans see if anything touching just seema strange that he noise gets quicker when you rev the car wasnt sure the fan would do this
-
Have you tried refitting the engine cover?
When was the cam Belt last changed?
-
Cambelt was changed 1k ago and it dosnt sound like its coming from there
-
Checked fans nothing touching and the noise isnt coming from there
-
open the bonnet and take abother video closer to throttle body :happy2:
Could also be the auxiliary cooling pump?.
-
Il try but isnt doing it much now as iv been using the car when it does it again il grab a closer video
-
Hope you sort it out. :happy2:
-
Got a video now with the bonnet open and holding it around near the throttle body part. Its not the best video

It sounds like the throttle body tbh.
-
What in thinking as its from that area put my earntonit and seems like its that. Think i may put a used one on it to seenif cures it 1st rather than blowing loads on a new one
-
Yeah go for a used one as it can't do any harm
-
So iv finally fitted a used throttle body.... The noise is still there with engine cover off sounds like its coming from near fuel pump or maybe something under that. Again only does it when cold once warmed up it stops.
-
Shame that. it really did sound like it was coming from the TB too. Need to see it to really diagnose it. have you had any garages try to diagnose it?.
-
Well my mate had a listen when it went in for the cambelt and he said it sounded like coming from throttle bosy but obviously not. Il have either take it back or find a vw specialist and leave it with them so they can hear it in the morning on start up from cold.
-
Someone said could be the n80 purge valve would this make this noise?
-
That could well be the bugger and it sits right next to the TB too.
-
I will later on have a listen around that area of the n80 valve and see if thats what it could be.
-
Get a long screw driver and put it on the valve and put your ear on the other end if thr driver and listen..
-
Yea good idea my old man did that on the hpfp could hear the cam follower working haha
-
So tonight i replaced tbe pcv valve as part of my todo jobs. And i started the car after and the noise has dissapeared and the engine sounds alot better so i think it was the pcv valve im going to check again tomorrow and keep an eye on it but fingers crossed that is it
-
What??? lol that's the weirdest thing I've even heard from a pcv :signLOL:
Hope it's resolved yur long term issue.
-
I will check it again tomorrow after work as iv just replaced the oil pick up pipe and refitted the sump just waiting for the oil to turn up tomoz then il check for the noise again. But it seemed alot quitet if im honest
-
wow that's a funny noise if it was coming from the pcv as that's just a breather  I've heard they can squeal but not a crazy noise like that.
Let us know
-
Started it again today and yep the noise seems to have gone and thats since relacing that pcv valve
-
Congratulations you've solved it :partywave:
