Hey mike.

Ill check the part number, most likely you need a multi function steering wheel with menu button.

Funny you should say that. They worked by holding wiper rocker switch... Until i tried a Gti pirrelli wheel with menu button buttons. Not been able to access the menus since (I'm back on my Cupra wheel with auto control only buttons

Same thing happenned to me.  I had a 972 cluster which worked off the stalk, i added it to a car which had a mfsw and then never worked off the stalk again!

I made a post about it but not had a lot of help. Seems like the 972 sort of self adapt to a steering wheel.

I looked everywhere. Apparently its in the eeprom of the clusters where a value needs to be changed. Spacewalker commented on my thread i made on the subject but didn't tell me which value it is.

The problem being everyone greedy and the ones that know don't want to tell as I had this on the tt forum but soon feckled them all up by giving out the info on how to fix the dash pod woes  :signLOL: people saved £1000 and people lost out on repair costs but isn't the sites meant to help people and not try to squeeze pennies put of us all.

I thought the whole idea of these forums was for 'information sharing' purposes with like-minded individuals??? To be honest, I haven't come across anyone like that on this forum. Everyone has been helpful.

I guess when it is business-related/profit involved, then people may be a little apprehensive about sharing 'free' information. Just my thoughts.

@RetroRaz (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=6494)  You wouldn't believe it. After 3 years almost of being locked out of my menus, tonight I got back in!

I can only assume it was after doing that adaptation, channel 0, save.  I did it a few times.

What I think triggered it was ignition cycling on / off as today, 1st time using the car, it started working when I got to the Shell station!

Im over the moon, now I can fit Polar Advance!

Yes that's right Rash but not everyone wants to play ball  , when it comes to profit money is when people don't want to share the info which I think is fair play but who wants to travel 100+miles for a job that could be done locally with the right information from the right people as not everyone will be able to master these techniques or have the ability to reprogram certain things like whoops That was Tfsi_Mike who just pointed out polar blah blah lol I don't even know that it is  :signLOL:.

Invaluable in my personal opinion.  Keep a constant eye on pressures, temps and vital engine info.  Maybe more pertinent to highly tuned motors.

@RetroRaz (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=6494) Tried the adaptation?

You could still try what mike did. Do the channel 0 reset with vcds and then turn the car off. Leave for half an hour for it to completely power down the clusters and then try accessing using stalk.

Hi Retroraz

I'm interested in getting cruise control fitted to my 2005 MK5 Golf GTi. The idea only came into my head recently when I drove down to the Jurassic coast and back on a day trip last week. 6 hours driving can get a little tiring lol.......

I saw this posting too late unfortunately but thought I would post a message. Anyway I'm based in Leighton Buzzard and can travel if necessary. Let me know whats possible  :happy2:

Best regards

Hi George.

Chances are that on a 2005 model you may need the additional wire going to the steering wheel control module. Some cars have them already. Best way to check is if your car has a standard roof aeriel then you have the newer wiring scheme and won't need the wire.

Next time im up in midlands is September for a few days.

Let me know if that suits you

Hi mine is a 2008 58 plate car. The aerial is a black normal looking aerial at the back of the roof.

I'll keep an eye out when you're in they Midlands, but I do spend some time near London so could pop in when I'm down that way possibly? What area of London?

Hi chris

Yep 08 plate is easy for me to do. Next time im up in midlands will probably be in a few weeks. But definitely September 8th till 11th. I actually live in Walthamstow, London.

If you can buy the stalk, ill fit and code it for £30

Get a 1K0953513G.  The G versions are more solid than the A ones.

Thanks, I'llbe in touch.  Unfortunately neither the midlands or north London are all that close, living in Leeds and parents in Guildford - but hopefully I'll be able to figure something out!

Do you fit NAV as well?  Is an aftermarket unit like this worth considering - the cheapest 2nd hand NAV+DAB I've found was £450 and it was a skoda one.

How much would you charge for this? (Assuming you do it?)

Is  ~£30 for the indicator stalk about what I should expect from ebay, or are these cheap fakes?
