I have driven quite a few different DSG equipped cars, and find it a very strange sensation when, in Drive, the gearbox changes down through the gears. The deceleration is not linear (sharp) when the next lowest gear is selected. Sometimes smooth, other times not.
I guess it is difficult to rev match exactly…..? Appears to be slightly smoother in Manual.

The DSG downshifts better if you put your foot in the gas pedal a bit in Manual mode. In Drive it downshifts when the rpm are low, so mine is smooth most of the times.
The way it works is it will try to go up the gears as fast as it can, so if you're not accelerating, it will pre-select the next higher gear. If you accelerate, it will think you might need to downshift to go faster, so it will have the lower gear pre-selected when you downshift making the downshift faster and smoother.

Thanks. Mine is smooth in manual, just a bot 'aggressive' sometimes when changing down, when braking gently to come to a halt.
Pretty certain it is completely normal (all others I have tried have been similar), just would like to reason why......

Maybe the braking is too slow and it doesn't have the lower gear pre-selected before downshifting...
You can always try to do a DSG reset to see if that solves the issue.

Ross Tech cable required? Cheers

Ross Tech cable required? Cheers
Yeah, you need one. There's a topic in this forum explaining how it's performed.

Was there once a loan system for the cable, or a list of local members with one? Cheers

There's a list where you can check a list to see who's near you, yes.
