Title: Sticking Caliper?
Post by: lukemk5gti on June 30, 2016, 08:24:11 am
Noticed this morning coming into work a bit of a squeal. When I got out of the car I thought someone was burning tar the smell was so noticeable. I could actually feel the heat coming off my rear passenger side wheel from a foot away.

I'm due rear discs and pads shortly and this is most likely a sticking caliper.

Anything I can do temporarily?

Considered a caliper repair kit but they're not highly regarded so I'm going to get two new calipers from VW direct @ €110 each plus vat and then discs and pads with brake fluid so materials all in is €380.

George Dalton here in Ireland said he would do the labour all in for just €100 so I can't fault that whatsoever. Saves me half a days work on my annual leave.

Had considered upgrading to R32/S3 setup but I only had a total new setup put on the fronts 2 months ago!

The annoying thing is that I just painted the damn calipers last week

check out misterauto.ie for the caliper .
i replaced my drivers side rear caliper back in may and it was around 75 euro plus a surcharge which you get back when you return the old caliper to them.
they were way cheaper than anywhere else.

I see it there http://www.mister-auto.ie/en/caliper/trw-bhn951e_g78_a161BHN951E.html

I would be worried now that since they want your old one back that I would possible also be getting a used refurb.

Even if it was brand new I have to waste time posting and packaging.

I need to do the discs and pads eventually so I'll just shell out in one go.
