Title: Car throwing ECU Code P0642 - HELP!
Post by: Jesta on July 03, 2016, 06:27:27 pm
Hi All,

so my car ( Mk5 gti - BWA Engine ) has thrown a P0642 code which all i can find means  - that the 5 volt reference voltage is too low.

Now as far as my research has got me, the car will likely have many sensors that share a 5v reference signal.

I know nothing about electrics but this all just seems massively vague to me, as to my simpleton mind this means I have a low voltage reading being returned from what could be any sensor in the car that shares that same signal?

How do you even begin to figure out where to look?!  Sorry if its a stupid question but it's a bit unnerving as I have no idea what sort of fix i've got to prepare for and if im looking at a few hours work or weeks of fault finding.

any help if anyone has experienced this would be appreciated.
