Title: Slow wing mirror motor
Post by: Madone on July 11, 2016, 04:43:48 pm
The passenger wing mirror dips when I put the car into reverse but the movement of the glass is getting slower and sticky in its movement. Does this mean a new motor or can anything be lunricated inside the unit ?

Same with mine. I always put it down to the fact that I had to stick the glass back on with double-sided pads and I'd maybe not aligned it properly.

But now you mention it, it does seem to be getting worse. Hopefully you can just spray a bit of wd40 in or something!

I'm hoping so, every time I see it moving it looks like it's gasping it's last breath !!

Hopefully it's a case of lubricating the gears, looks like the motor comes as a motor/gearbox unit ?

To be honest I've no idea how the mechanism works. I just stuck the glass back on and forgot about it.

From what I can make out there is a motor module that includes the gears.

The guide I read said the glass clipped onto the motor ?, but you had to stick yours with tape ?

When I bought the car the glass was visibly wobbling on the test drive. One of very few faults, but anyway...

The seller 'sorted it' before I picked it up, but inaccurately - one corner/edge of the glass was fouling the main cowling of the mirror body and causing it to jam when tilting.

I got it home, pulled the glass off, and did it properly. From memory, the glass came away from whatever bit clips into the motor. Stuck a few of those sticky pads on the back of the glass, lined it up and stuck it on.

Ive been searching and can't seem to find anywhere to buy just the motor. Really don't want to buy a complete wing mirror unit !

I was wondering if my passenger mirror should dip when in reverse. Mine doesn't, but does have elec folding with puddle lights. Is there something I should be doing to re-set it?

It only functions if you leave it with left mirror selected on the mirror combination switch.
However, it may need coding if you don't have a highline cluster to do it yourself. Also you need to have the correct mirror assembly and door controller Gen3.
