Title: URGENT and Dillema with subframe bushes
Post by: r5gtt on July 20, 2016, 10:22:23 am
Hi all,

Does anyone know if there's a special tool to fit the subframe upper and lower bushes as ive tried to fit them and when going in the bush starts to bow on the weakest point and stops it from going in?.

Thanks

Got my subframe mount done yesterday mate. Tops going in today! Yay!!

The lower mount was a pain. Literally took 2-3 hours to get it in.

In the end we had to get a g clamp/ monkey grips squeezing the bow and push mount in. That being said mine was oem and had a plastic outer.
Didn't look nice, but feels so great now.

The mechanic just told me, theres a widget you can get to insert into the dogbone cutout and you can get a cone to help the lower go in.

The trick is to insert a pry bar between the subframe and the part of the bush that bows.  Lever the bush in while pressing down.  Takes around 20 mins to get the bushes pressed in.

Where were you when I was desperate   :signLOL:
Tried thay and snapped a bush  :slap:

In the end I used the press to press down and a huge pair of grips that someone else was griping as I don't have the strength for that. theres always one beech out the lot and I got it.

@vRSAlex (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1981) don't you use the special tool vag have?.

Thanks

Yeah I did notice you've been quiet  :signLOL: Yeah not many people have then fitted but my job entails me to do so when replacing the subframe  :sad1: pain in the  :booty: if you also me and a stupid design from VAG.
I'll be doing mine soon but have the Vibratechnics pair so should go straight in he says  :scared:

Thanks again for your reply  :drinking:

Bit of a thread revival but this is the best aftermarket tool to do the job, makes it a doddle. Not cheap but much cheaper than the official workshop tool and easier as removal of the subframe is not required. The trick is finding a garage who aren't cheapskates and actually have this tool. [Best bet would be to find a reputable VAG specialist in your local area.]

thank you for your link and message @MPS (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1809)

Yes it looks stupidly simple with that set as I did those on the A1 and had to grind the edges for them to go on and also a huge set of water grips and a strong guy to help me with them. If I had a another garage is invest in this myself.

People say it's easy but I don't believe this as the part that bows does snap!!!

Thanks again mate  :drinking:
