Title: Help! Possible DSG Issue
Post by: Lew1989 on July 24, 2016, 09:37:19 am
First of all, this is my first post on here so hello everyone!

I picked up my 07 Mk5 GTI on Friday, which is has a DSG and 77k on it.

Overall the car seems to drive really well however after driving it over weekend I have noticed something concerning regarding what I fear could be the gearbox  :( . The car is booked in to a VAG specialist tomorrow but just wanted your opinions so I'm not potentially told rubbish!

When giving it the beans in 3rd gear (and only 3rd) it seems to have a moments juddering/slight hesitation before driving through it, causing a noticeable vibration through the steering.  It does this twice, once at around 3000 RPM and then again just before 5000 RPM.

At first I thought it felt like traction control cutting in or wheel spin, but the car wouldn't have the power to do that in 3rd at these speeds.

Next I thought it would be clutch slip, but the revs dont seem to be jumping around - only maybe ever so slightly at the point of hesitation.

It does this 9/10 times - it is very consistent!

I cannot get it do this in any other gear at all. There's no slip in 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th or 6th that I can perceive, no juddering or jolting on take off - its really smooth in general. My other car is an 11' Scirocco R which is also a DSG which I've owned for years with no issues at all.

The car has had its 40k & 80k DSG services carried out already.

Any ideas guys? I appreciate any advice you may have!

Cheers

Lew

@Lew1989 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=16675) do you get a engine management light flash up and then go away?

Best to get it scanned via VCDS and see what comes up. I had a similar issue and scanned it came up with misfire cylinder 3. Could be coil packs or spark plugs or worst case (as it was with me - an injector)

I took it into a specialist today and they had a look into the issue. They couldn't be 100% certain but they believe it is DSG related. They also noted that the airbox is spilt in half/cracked so not sealing and that it appears to be running lean due to the colour of the spark plugs. Furthermore there was a crack in the centre section of the exhaust.

I'm no expert on these things so I'm unsure but I just don't know what to think as to whether these other issues may have an effect. I'm gutted if it is DSG problems, but there's no fault in any other gear!

Hi sort the air box and exhaust out as these are related to juddering and gear change issues and take it from there.
