I'm after some advice about lawn care and just wondered if we had any "lawn smiths" on the forum?
-
(What's going on with the forum smilies?)
-
Been using green thumb for 16 years and everyone we know comments on how good our lawn always looks. Worth it for £20 four times per year
-
I was kinda hoping a green thumb bloke was on here tbh
Now I'm old :innocent: I'm starting to enjoy the gardening a bit more. But having ocd I'm striving for perfection with my lawn and I'd like to do it myself really

Whats up?

I know a few people with artificial turf and I must say it is Amazing :notworthy:
.......maybe one year when my enthusiasm for gardening abates. :innocent:
Whats up?
Well Rich, in a nutshell..... Needs aeration, scarifying, fertiliser/weeding, overseeding and some top dressing applying to the small dips
So not much really
Just need some expert advice on a plan of action and what products to use (fert/weeder, grass seed, top dressing)
Also, should I be adding sharp sand after aerating the lawn for better drainage?
:popcornsoda:

Lift the turf and put the extra soil under is my input on the dips. Use Verdone/Weedol to kill the weeds and use growmore to fertilise. Turf needs loads of water to thrive.
Scarifying is ok early season after killing the moss, but it will come back whatever you do to be honest. Aeration is probably not required unless there has been really heavy traffic over it cor several years.

Thats a garden to be proud of. Any advice on cutting the fancy circles into the grass ? Like they do on football pitches
-
A Qualcast Cylinder , but any mower with a roller will create stripes. A cylinder will not cut any higher than about 25mm so i have a Honda Rotary to cut it higher. The longer the grass the better it retains moisture so i let it grow higher when it is hotter. The success to good grass cutting is to only cut a third of the blade of grass at any one time , if you cut more than that it will go yellow for a few days. Fertiliser and water are highly important.

Re circles just bang in a hecty stake at the centre and a Good piece of string/rope tied to the mower and then walk roind in a circle, lengthen the rope by a mower width and walk rou d in a circle again , repeat etc

we really do have a wealth of knowledge on here
