Title: ashjstarr's Daily Mk5
Post by: Ashjstarr on August 02, 2016, 06:55:15 pm
Hi All, i'm new here and to the MK5 world.
Have been into VWs since about 17 when i passed my test, started off with a MK2F Polo Genesis Coupe, followed shortly by another (Cant find any pictures of these as it was pre facebook and me being on any forums.
Then went to Uni. Didnt like not having a car so had couple of MK2 Breadvan Polos

followed by a MK2 Golf:

Then got a proper job and needed something less rusty so bought a Saxo (Dark Times) which lasted about a year before being replaced with another Polo, this time a 6n2 (there seems to be a theme with red cars.....)

by this point i was abut 23 and moved a bit closer to work and wanted something a bit more fun so bought this
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2F5yYLbuD.jpg&hash=e39591fd0dddc5989ae19bb60c0166bbd0b5c658)

MK1 Caddy with 1.8T lump dropped in. After about a year of this, a couple of breakdowns and a small fortune sunk into it my partner had had enough and persuaded me to part with it and took this in PX.

That takes us up to about 2 weeks ago when i decided, after getting a promotion at work, that i deserved something newer and quicker. Looked at about 4 or 5 different MK5s, decided I wanted a black one with leather and a Manual 'box and then this one popped up in my searches. 2 views and 2 test drives later here she is.
2005 Golf GTI Completely standard except for the CH025 Alloys.

Few quick visual mods:
New Grille and Black badges
Pressed Plates
Android Headunit

Bloody good clean and full paint detail (action shot)

Plan is to enjoy it for a while then slowly start heading towards stage 2
Exhaust
Intake
GFB DV
S3 or FMIC
H&R Springs
upgraded Engine Mounts

so pretty standard modding path really.

Welcome to the site. Good to see the new motor getting some love.

Don't forget an uprated fuel pump, these cars really benefit from them even without a 2+ map.

cheers for the comments guys, followed the Mrs home from work the other day and she said it looks really mean and menacing from in front which is just what i was going for!

was having a few issues with vibrations at high speeds so had the alignment checked.....

Been busy with work so been a while since ive been on forums and stuff.

Had disks and pads done to sort out a warped disk. Took it down to The Firm to have that done and Tim mentioned that he felt the car was a bit underpowered (its the only one ie ever driven so obviously hadnt noticed)

Today i pulled the DV out and found this.

Not great. Luckily had already taken delivery of a GFB DV+ which i fitted up and my god it makes a world of difference!

Got my eye on an s3/short shift kit next and maybe a centre box delete whilst i save up for new miltek turboback, then a remap in the new year

Went to a local meet last week,

Parked up next to these made me realise how high it still is! So ordered up some of these:

Hopefully get around to fitting them soon, but in the mean time swapped out some bulbs for LEDs

Sweet jesus those interior ones are bright. Something had to be done, so added some tinting (ND lighting Gel)

Its certainy dimmed it quite a bit but still leaves a nice coloured light. Currently using 0.6ND lighting gel but might go down to 0.3 to add a tad more light back in if i find its too dark after a few weeks.

Nice mods so far.
I hated my LED interior lights, blinding ! so i think dulling them down is good :)

Good idea re toning down interior LEDs.

Fitted LED to wifeys fiat 500, mainly because they keep leaving the interior lights on!
White car, white dash, white wheel etc...now feels like being under a sun bed when lit up on a dark night!
Never mind loosing night vision, feels like you've got arc-flash.
Wife n daughters think its ideal....

Bought these ones from ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/162068923369

Generally good, the footwell ones cause some blue spots which i can live with, all the others are good.
Reg light ones didnt work to start with but realised id mixed them up with the vanity light ones as they are same size but once id figured that out all good.

Next step was headlight bulbs, opted for Osram nightbreakers, not as white as i was hoping, not a massive difference from the stock ones, but they certainly make a difference to light levels when driving. Great pattern and coverage.

Nice mods so far mate. Loving the tint for the LED's, they are ridiculously bright aren't they. I've turned mine fully off and then when I need it well lit they come in handy.
