Title: Mondello Track Day
Post by: lukemk5gti on August 03, 2016, 11:04:26 am
So on Monday I won a track day on the international track day event in Mondello thanks to Micksgarage.com (http://Micksgarage.com)

I met Rob who works for Micksgarage out there who was an absolute gentleman. He actually purchased a mk5 GTI not too long ago on behalf of the company which is used as their demo car for the likes of recording how to videos for their items and also for track days of their own. They also document all their work such as cleaning out the oil strainer http://blog.micksgarage.com/golf-gti-oil-strainer-cleaning/

So I started the day off with the instructors as a passenger. They showed me the ropes and I found it very helpful. I then took off in my own car and absolutely loved it. I highly recommend it to anyone in Ireland who hasn't gone before.

My car is completely standard which is personally how I want it and I'd have to say that I won't be bringing the GTI on another track day again. I will however consider buying a track car and making it a hobby down the line!

Nice! I want a track car!

From chatting with the avid drivers out there I'm told that track cars in Ireland sell for pennies here in comparison to the UK because we don't have the same market! You should get a ferry over and drive back with a nice new track car!

These are the figures I got from a current owner "My current car is worth €3,000 in Ireland but would fetch €7,000 in the UK."

He also advised that I could buy a €500 big engine car that nobody can afford to tax and that has failed on emissions and to gut that completely.

@oisinc (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=4391) Make a build thread for it.

Engine rebuild or.... pretty sure a 1.8T 20v can go in the mk2 gti with some work

@Peskyjones (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=11854)
Its already built. just need a rebuild of the engine.
Its been suggested to put the 1.8T in but I think Ill keep it as is with the old 8v digi.

I will put up some pics soon though. Plus Ive been quoted €3-4k  for the rebuld.. I cant dump that on the car atm.
