Title: Oil pump failure help. Options...?
Post by: gav69 on August 07, 2016, 03:32:42 pm
Had issues a year ago with oil pressure. Had sump and strainer pipe checked and cleaned. Thought everything was ok.

Oil pump failed after a huge bill having engine stripped 4 miles from garage. Recovered and after some time managed to get a used oil pump which after been fitted drove 4 miles again trying to get car home. Car shuts down.... oil pump failed.... again! After paying another bill for  labour and fitting.

Car still in garage and considering my options as I have lost faith in my little car.

1. get replacement used engine.
2. oil pump conversion from usp motorsports
3. break for parts or sell as is.

If anyone has these issues would be good to know what you did?
Car is 05 Gti 83k
Not drove my car in nearly 3 month and feeling mad/sad.
Want to keep £ to minimum as spent nearly £1K since it went in and been told could be £2k to repair. Aint paying that.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated

sadly its common on these engines

axx engines its either the cam chain tensioner or the oil pump
if you replace the pump then you need to do the tensioner on the cams as well then the engine will be fine

personaly i would be looking at a bwa engine but then thats probably £1300/1500 time its had a service and cam belt including fitting

or just cut your losses and move the car on or break it

what ever you do your going to take a hit on the car its just how you play it how hard your going to be hit

I was told by mechanic that it will need shells and block sent away to get crank grinded. I am right stressed out over it all as my engine been fully serviced and timing belt etc all done 3k ago. It is the not knowing which option will work as I could put in replacement engine with issues or put new pump in and discover damage problems later with current engine.

I don't have time to break car. I will keep looking for engine bwa preferably as looks like the new oil pump and vat, labour charges will cost more and be a bit of a gamble. Thanks Danboy
