Title: Key fobs
Post by: Mike_J_Smith on August 07, 2016, 08:42:18 pm
Not sure if this is the right place for this question, but does anyone have any experience with the replacement key find from eBay? The ones where you put the key and electronics from your old one into?

One of my keys is ok, but the other is tatty.

Like this:

Cheers,

bought one,
opened old one
replaced internals
tried to open car
didnt work
then end.

Expensive mistake on my end.
Car starts, but just doesnt unlock or lock the car!
Either it got deprogrammed or i broke it.  :(

Hmm, that doesn't sound good. I do have two sets but don't want to wreck a set.

I bought one of these as one of my keys was a little tatty. Got myself a little flathead screwdriver, opened it up, swapped everything over and it worked perfectly!

It will be fine if everything is swapped over correctly. The new case does feel very cheap in comparison with a genuine key though.

Be careful when swapping the immo chip, they are glass and if it breaks then the key will no longer start the car

Thanks for the replies. I may get one anyway, they're cheap enough and see what I think of them.
