Title: steering rack gaiter broke free..!
Post by: john_o on January 19, 2010, 10:36:01 pm
yep, funny noises when turning right over the last few days.
so I went under the car tonight to find the passengers side steering rack gaiter free from the inboard lip with no clip! WTF
now I checked TT's docs and it appears its just smeared with light grease (which it still was), no sign of dirt or ingress, so looks like it may just have happened.
Anyways Ive put a zip tie on it for now (access to tighten it is best from under bonnet with air filter assembly removed!)
but Ill be taking a trip to the dealers.
I suspect I may be heading for a new rack...........

bugger
anyone got the steering rack TSB 's ? (which seem to be mostly for left turn issues ?)

noise remains , but my heath robinson tie wrap still holds  :signLOL:
booked in on tuesday for the dealer to have a look.

I would suspect loose bolts / rack / cv joint or suspension component .......
we'll just have to see how the WALKit goes down as they mentioned it when it got serviced last time  :surprised:
fingers crossed
