Hi all,
Just about purchased a 2008 Mk V. Hopefully pick it up next week. It's actually gonna be my wife's car but I'll get a go now and again. I'm hopefully gonna do the basic services etc myself so hopefully I'll get some good tips and direction from this forum. I'm by no means a mechanic but like to get in about things myself, up to a point.
I'll post more info, car spec etc, once I pick it up.

Hi David,
My name is David and four years ago I bought a MK5 DSG GTI for my wife!!
Three years later I had absolutely no choice but to buy one for myself!!
I'm telling you buddy the car is so damn impressive you'll probably end up getting one of your own :happy2: :happy2:
Either way, good luck and enjoy  :happy2:

Engine FSI(BPY) or TSI(CCTA) and Tranny type(DSG or manual) will be helpful in determining what help with what to do and when.

Noob question, but how do you tell the difference?

Fsi is usually the 1.6 non turbo.
Or they did a 1.4tsi.
But should be a 2.0 tfsi as the 2.0tsi was in the mk6 and up

The easiest way is...is your MAF location, hpfp location, and oil filter location.
Your MK5...is it a GTI? The 2008 GTI has the FSI and TSI in the 2008 year. It was switched mid-year in '08.
Or, does it look like this FSI(BPY)?: http://blog.moddedeuros.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/MK5-FSI-copy.jpg
Or like this TSI(CCTA): http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc292/Uconndoit08/New%20York%20Auto%20Show/DSC00909.jpg
The FSI has "BPY" stamped on the head lip just below the oil filler cap/neck.

Cheers for the welcome guys.
Ducman77 aka David- you're probably right. I did have my eye on an A class Merc for myself. Currently have Honda CRZ. Oh and my other car is a Nissan Figaro (don't shoot me) lol. They're fun wee cars and easy to work on. Was down at Silverstone Classic 2 weeks ago with Figaro Owners Club. Got to drive round the track in a parade lap. 9 minute lap, lol. Not quite F1 pace but great fun.
ROH ECHT- the advert for the car said TFSI engine. It's a DSG. I typed the reg into eurocarparts for prices for basic servicing stuff and it showed up as a 2009. We're 08 plates still being registered on a 2009 model?
Thanks all anyway. I'll upload pics when I get the car.

Welcome :)
My car is on a 56 plate but it wasn't registered until 2007. So that's pretty normal
