So, after buying a used MFSW from omeydz (Omar) on this forum I installed it a couple days ago after the rest of the things I needed arrived. Namely, the different wiring loom, CH version steering wheel control module and a G version cruise control stalk.
The install of all parts was easy enough, but it took several attempts to clear the steering wheel symbol from the dash and the associated codes by doing the reset and basic procedures steps.
However, I still have these errors:
Engine
005784 P1698 - 001
Steering wheel
00895 014 - Defective
Gateway
00003 014 - Defective
They all seem to relate to the cruise control stalk. Also the tyre pressure warning light is flashing on the dash. Pressing the button to reset it just makes it light up solid and then when you release the button it starts flashing again.
I've taken apart the cruise control stalk as per a link in the vcds wiki pages I've found and checked for corrosion but it's all good as you would expect being new.
Strangely I can clear the fault code in the steering wheel option on vcds and it stays cleared. However when I re- check it after going into the can gateway option it will have reappeared.
I didn't take an auto scan of my car beforehand unfortunately.
I've tried selecting different versions (4 or 6 position) of the cruise control stalk under the steering wheel options but this hasn't helped.
When checking outputs with vcds it shows when I have the cruise control switch on or off (although the cruise control icon doesn't show up on the dash) and indicator and high beam all work as they should. I can't find anywhere that shows the output test for the set and resume buttons though.
When coding after the install the steering wheel module already had a code and after selecting the multi function steering wheel with push to talk ( I guess this is correct as that is referring to the microphone symbol?) vcds said this was an uncoded module and did I want to use default codes of 12345 etc. I selected no to leave in the code that was in there. I've since tried 12345 as well without luck.
Should I have written down my coding from my original steering wheel module and used that?
I'll pull it all apart and reinstall that to get the code off it if need be, but don't want to go down that route if I don't need to.
I've registered on the vcds forum too so will post this there too when my activation code comes through.
Anything anyone can think of that I've done wrong or aren't doing?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Ps I've searched the forums for this and although I find similar problems they never have the resolution posted.

Just a quick question for you, did you check you have the wire needed between the swcm and engine ecu for cruise to work?
What reg is car

No, I didn't. That does ring a bell though. I must've read about that somewhere. where exactly should i check that assuming I can't find that again.
Car is 2005 so i guess that means an 05 reg car in the UK.
Thanks for the tips so far, I'll see in the meantime if I can find that site that mentions the pin.
-
Ahh, is this what you were talking about? I found it on the ross tech site.
Add the Wiring from Steering Column Control Module to the Engine Control Module. This step used to be necessary before MY 2006/2007 but as of MY 2010 several Users have reported missing Wiring when the Vehicle was not Factory equipped with Cruise Control. Check the proper Wiring Diagrams for the Vehicle in question.
For Steering Wheel Control Module P/N 1K0-953-549-* check Connector/Pin T20/13.
For Steering Wheel Control Module P/N 5K0-953-549-* and 5K0-953-569-* check Connector/Pin T16/5.

Now I know what you are referring to.
I found a very well put together how to that you've made on ukmkiv's.net about the diagnostics wire.
Surely my car must already have this as it came with cruise control and it was working fine until I did this retrofit.
The APR software my car is running uses the cruise control stalk to change through the different tunes.
-
From your original post I didn't realise you had cruise from the start, so yes the wire will be there. Hopefully someone else will chirp in with some other ideas

Well well well. Guess what? My "G" revision CC stalk is not a "G" revision at all! I've taken it out and the yellow wires go into pins 5 & 10 just like an "A" revision.
So I'll just modify my old stalk by joining the yellow wires like in some other threads I've seen and put that back in and see what happens.
I'll give you an update to let you know how it goes.
I'll be emailing the seller of the CC stalk. Grrr! :fighting:
-
So after doing the wiring mod to the CC and installing it all back together I took car for a tiny drive to go and to do the steering angle sensor and the Steering Limit Stop Adaptation. But after going just afew meters the steering wheel light, ESP and ABS lights all went and and steering felt normal. At this point i checked for fault codes and Engine, ABS, Steering Wheel, Steering Assist and CAN gateway were all clear.
However, I still had the tyre pressure symbol flashing on the instrument cluster and pressing the button to reset it didn't work.
I thought maybe it will go away if I redo the steering angle sensor and the Steering Limit Stop Adaptation. Alas, it didn't and I now also have the fault back in the CAN gateway and it wont clear.
Cruise control is now working and the faults relating to it are gone. I'll have to do some more investigating about these issues unless anyone has some ideas.
Heres the auto scan as it stands now:

Found this in a reasonably recent post on here and it was exactly what I needed:
Copied from rosstech:
Pressure Monitoring System Reset
This procedure will NOT apply unless the vehicle has ABS based Tire Pressure Monitoring (PR-7K1/7K6) installed!
Prerequisites:
Ignition ON
[Select]
[03 - Brake Electronics]
[Basic Settings - 04]
Group 042
[Go!]
Activate the Basic Setting.
[ON/OFF/Next]
[Done, Go Back]
[Close Controller, Go Back - 06]
The Tire Pressure Monitoring Lamp (K220) should blink.
Now check the Tire Pressure and correct it if necessary.
Press and Hold the Tire Pressure Monitoring Button (E492) AND the ASR/ESP Button (E256) for 2 Seconds.
A short Tone should sound after pressing/holding these buttons for 2 Seconds and the blinking should change to a permanent lit Tire Pressure Monitoring Lamp (K220).
The Reset is now done and as soon as you let the buttons go the Tire Pressure Monitoring Lamp (K220) should go OFF.
Did this and warning light on instrument cluster is gone. :jumpmove:
I still have the fault in the CAN gateway but I've no idea what it's referring to. It doesn't seem to be affecting anything.
I've got 8 out of the 12 buttons on the steering wheel working, but possibly cant get them all to work as I only have a midline MFD.
-
Ah, glad you found out about having to press and hold. It's always been like that , although not initially obvious.
Well done for actually doing your own research as well. you've fixed the problem, goes to show.. lol :)
